It's a comfortable place with well developed
infrastructure to ride mountain ski or to snowboard 60 kilometers
outside of Moscow (1h20m by car or by a local train).
Usually there's good snow in Moscow area from mid December until
mid March. Volen park has about 6 slopes up to 400 meters long and
elevators.
You can rent the equipment right there (mountain ski or snowboards),
for that you'll need to pay around $13 for the first 2 hours and
to deposit your driving license or a passport. There are also guesthouses
available for $70 / night for a person, restaurant, cafe and equipment
store. In any case, the entrance is free, so If you have your own
equipment you might only need to pay for the car parking (30 R -
$1) and the elevators (50 R - $2) for 10 lifts.
This park works 24 hours a day.
Address: This
park is located in Moscow region, Yakhroma town,
How to get there and back by car from Moscow: take
Dmitrovskoy Shosse (to the north of Moscow), go up to the 63th
kilometer, make a left
turn and then go to Yahroma town (there are signs) - about 5 mins
by car. If you use a taxi one way ride from Moscow will cost around
900 R ($30).
How to get there by train from Moscow: Go to Savelovsky vokzal
(railway station), then take any train with "Dmitrov" town as a
final destination - those trains depart every 20-30 minutes. Then
get out on the 20th station (or one station before Dmitrov) - it's
"`Yakhro`ma" station and it's about
1 hour 15 minutes ride, it costs around 20 R (< $1) one way.
Buy the ticket for a return trip in advance. When you're at the
station, cross the bridge over the railway and walk to the bus station.
Don't take a bus, take a car to "Volen park" and pay
around 60-100 R ($2-3). In 5 minutes you're there.
Getting back: The last train from this station
('Yahroma" station)
goes back to Moscow at around 23:00, but it might take long to
catch
a car from the park, so give it around 1 hour to get to the station
from the park (it'll take 30-60 mins walking if there's no car.
You can also make a deal with a driver when he drives you to the
park, so he would come back to get you at a specific time. Otherwise,
you can try to go to the parking lot at the park and ask people
who have cars to drive you back to Moscow (I did that), it's gonna
be free and interesting too. And also, as you're a foreigner people
will be interested, so really, give it a try.
Contacts: Tel: (095) 578-3502, Internet: www.volen.ru

passport or driving license and 400 roubles as a deposit for the
equipment you rent. The price of the elevators is 50 R ($1.7) for
10 rides on weekdays and 200 R ($7) - on weekends, so better go
to this park on weekdays, besides there're less people that time
there.

Gyms, Fitness Clubs
Usually one visit to a gym costs from 60 to 150 roubles, but
there are also quite expensive places like Gold's Gym and Planet
Fitness,
which charge more and offer only membership schemes. The memebership
is usually $800-$1000 for a year.
However, if you need only one visit you can talk the managers into
a free visit by telling them something like you're a representative
of a big company and that you want to check their gym out to find
out if it's good for a corporate membership or something like that.
It works, really, and you've got a chance to visit a decent place
also. Only don't go to the same place twice (anyway, it's not possible
for free, so...).
