Casa
Leto
Probably the classiest, small-scale accommodation in St Petersburg.
That is to say it’s the highest quality “boutique
hotel” going. There are five rooms, each named after Italian
architects of St Petersburg – Trezzini, Rossi, Rastrelli,
Quarenghi and Rinaldi. The difference between the rooms is the
size, the lavishness of furnishings and the bathroom facilities.
Room prices vary accordingly. In the lowest season prices range
between €120 ($155) for the Trezzini room and €170
($220) for the Rinaldi room while in the highest season these
rooms cost €170 ($220) and €235 ($300) respectively.
All rooms feature Satellite TV, a DVD player and heated floors
in the bathroom. The prices include free wireless internet, international
phone calls, breakfast, refreshments, soft drinks and an incredibly
high level of service. Registration can be done for €15.
The hotel has a non-smoking policy, which means it’s down
to the street if you want to light up. Casa Leto really accentuates
the feel of St Petersburg with its sumptuous interior, decorated
with antiques, and the environment is imbued with serenity. Even
the staircase up to the second storey hotel is atmospheric. Just
a few minutes walk from the Winter Palace and St Isaac’s,
this is the place to stay if you want to do St Petersburg in
style.

willing to spend only few days in town as they won't miss any major

WayToRussia.Net comments: A cheaper clone of Comfort hotel offers
all the bonuses of a big brother for a good price. It's just opened, so everything's
brand new, clean and stylish enough to make this place a choice for your stay
in town. The view from the rooms isn't great, but that's what you share with
visitors, who stopped at the top-notch *****Astoria hotel, located down the same

Neva Hotel.
Built back in 1863 Neva became a hotel in 1913, a year
after more upscale Astoria was opened. A century in a business doesnÍt give
Neva hotel any special credits, though.
Majority rooms were last renovated in 1980s and my first impression
was like ïnight
at a train station isnÍt much worseÍ. A legacy of soviet-era Intourist is everywhere.
IÍve been talking to administrator for 15 minutes and there were also couple
of travelers checking in. ItÍs not just the reception desk that looked like a
nightmare from the late 1970s but also ladies at the reception who didnÍt crack
a smile for a split second made me feel really awkward.
Location: Chernyshevskaya Metro station isnÍt far from Neva
Hotel. Historical sights are very near ¿ Summer Gardens with Peter the Great
Summer Palace, Mars Field, EngineerÍs Castle and more; old Leningrad KGB building
is the closest historical building, though. This area isnÍt very quiet. Bank
with an ATM is around the corner. Very good Caucasian cuisine restaurant is next
doors ¿ you wonÍt be starving.
Facilities: Neva hotel if you happened to stop there will provide
a good range of services and facilities. Laundry services are provided. There's
a restaurant, conference hall for around 50 people, beauty parlor, and a sauna
with a swimming-pool (4 by 3 meters). Visa registration is free for guests & visa
support service is offered by tour agency the hotel works with. A choice of sightseeing
tours and transfer services offered. Some rooms are equipped with refrigerators.
Air, Railroad, Bus, Museum tickets booking are offered. 24hours security service,
luggage room. There's a safe box at the reception. No service is provided for
free - there's always a charge, but prices are minimal, 10 rubles to use a safe,
for example.
Interior & Rooms: There are a few types of rooms: standard
singles and doubles ranging from 1360 to 2700 rubles per night, depending on
a season; extra bed is 500 rubles. Those rooms are very basic and you might as
well stop at any hostel for half a figure to get what Neva offers. Renovated
rooms and luxury rooms (singles, doubles & twins) are much better alternatives:
nicer furniture, some rooms have bathtubs, not just showers; accommodation in
luxury sector includes a morning visit to a sauna as standard. Prices start at
2000 rubles and go up to 4800 rubles, 500 rubles for the extra bed. All prices
include buffet breakfast. All rooms have private bathrooms with showers (separate
ones in renovated & luxury rooms). All rooms offer 24h room service, no internet
access, telephone, TV (Local channels only), air-conditioning (in luxury rooms).
WayToRussia.Net comments: basic rooms are not an option - better
to go to a hostel, more upscale rooms are only ok. Neva definitely can't keep
up with newer places in terms of comfort, service level and facilities. It's
a bottom of a list place - an 'emergency' accommodation.
Hostel Services & Facilities: 24 hrs room service, laundry,
safe-box, transport services (tickets/taxi), visa registration, tickets booking,
guiding services.
Room Facilities: private bathroom & toilet, telephone, TV (local
channels), refrigerators in some rooms.
Area Features: restaurants nearby, historical city center.
Address: Tchaikovskogo Street, 17. Contacts:
Tel: +7 (812) 278-0500, Fax +7 (812) 273-2593.
Rates: from $47 to $165, std. & renovated singles and doubles, luxury singles & doubles.
Total Rooms: 70.

Shelfort Hotel.
15-Room Shelfort Hotel occupies two floors of middle XIX century building located
on the 3rd Line of Vasilievsky Island in a quiet area away from the beaten
tracks, but still very close to all the main city attractions. The interiors
are quite nice, but not classy
nevertheless meeting standards of an average three-star hotel.
Few rooms are facing the street while some are providing only a courtyard perspective,
which
is not very exciting. Ceilings are high so the rooms feel larger than they are,
though we didnÍt find singles as spacious as they could be (a ïcruiseship single
roomÍ feel). The obvious benefit of accommodation on Vasilievsky Island, which
was once meant to become a center of St. Petersburg according to Peter the GreatÍs
initial plan, is fresh air coming from the sea that you can only dream of when
stopping somewhere close to Nevsky Prospect. The main drawback here is a busy
navigation season (late spring through late autumn), which is a key reason why
bridges across Neva open up every night isolating the place from the downtown
area.
Location: ItÍll take you less than 5 minutes to walk to Vasileostrovskaya
Metro station (which is only one stop away from the main street) and about 15
minutes to get to the Hermitage and the Palace Square by foot. Located on of
the 'Lines' of Vasilievsky Island, straight streets forming a symmetrical grid
on a map, Shelfort hotel is a great choice for a bit off-center accommodation
for a good price. There are plenty of historical buildings in the area including
The Academy of Fine Arts, Kunstcamera museum, Menshikov's Palace (early XIX century
Russian culture exposition of the Hermitage), an old food market and one of the
first churches build in town in the 1740's - St. Andrews' Cathedral. Two currency
exchange offices are located on the same street; supermarket and an ATM are around
the corner.
Facilities: Shelfort Hotel provides just basic services and
facililities. WiFi internet connection is available in all rooms. Laundry services
are provided. There are two common rooms, one on each floor, where breakfasts
are served in the morning. The first floor common room boasts large screen plasma-panel;
room on a second floor has an old fireplace, which is a nice extra during a winter
season. There are no working places for those on business-trips, no bars or restaurants
either, but there are quite a few nice eateries around the block. Visa registration
is free for guests & visa support service is offered for $20. A standard set
of sightseeing bus tours and transfer services (airport pick-up costs $30) offered.
No kitchen (& fridges in the rooms), bars or restaurants at the hotel, but plenty
around. Air, Railroad and Bus tickets booking.
Interior & Rooms: There are a few types of rooms: two standard & two
comfort singles from 1950 to 2700 rubles (60 to 85 EUR) (low & high season, extra bed 450 rubles),
nine doubles from 3150 to 4000 rubles (95 to 125 EUR) (low & high season, extra bed 750 rubles) & two
air-conditioned luxury doubles (one with a fireplace) from 4500 to 5400 rubles (130 to 170 EUR)
(low & high season, extra bed 750 rubles). All prices include breakfast, which
is served in common rooms on both floors. All rooms have separate bathrooms with
showers; luxury double also has a bathtub. All rooms offer 24h room service,
WiFi internet access, telephone, TV (Local channels and Satellite BBC News only),
air-conditioning (luxury doubles only). The hotel is only three years old so
it doesn't have a feeling of an ancient soviet inn with flea-bitten furniture
upholstery. Payments by major credit cards accepted.
WayToRussia.Net comments: I found this place a nice alternative
to larger hotels offering the same range of services and comparable prices but
lacking this personal attention to customers needs typical for smaller of family-run
businesses. On-line reservation system is being developed and should be launched
this season.
Hostel Services & Facilities: 24 hrs room service, 2 common
rooms, internet (WiFi), laundry, safe-box, transport services (tickets/taxi),
visa registration.
Room Facilities: air-conditioning, bathroom & toilet (private),
safe-box, telephone, TV (local channels + BBC).
