Jazz and Blues clubs in St. Petersburg

Jazz is really popular in St. Petersburg and you'll find lots of cool places around. Check out the listings below - these are the best places in the city.

For a listing of jazz & blues events in St. Petersburg see our What's On in St. Petersburg section.

Red Fox Jazz Café — is a nice little basement café featuring live jazz every night. The interior is somehow very simple and sophisticated at the same time, really cozy too... You won’t believe the prices on

booze — take a look! Daily, 13,00 to 23:00. Music charge 60 rubles 20.00 to 22.00.
Address: 50 Mayakovskaya Ul. M: Chernyshevskaya. Tel.: (812) 275-4214, Internet:

JFC Jazz Club. Very friendly people, warm interior, the atmosphere is very close to that of Amsterdam jazz clubs (after all, St. Petersburg was

made to be like Amsterdam...)
Often hosts jazz concerts by Russian and foreign musicians of various styles: from classic to avant-garde and improvisation.
Popular among people who like jazz, foreigners and expats.
Bar serves all kinds of drinks and light food ($5-$10 for a meal and drink)
Address: Shpalernaya Ul., #33. Location: next to Liteiny bridge, Neva river, International Hostel Holiday. Directions: metro Ploshchad Lenina , walk over Liteiny bridge over Neva river to the direction of Nevski prospekt and make a left turn on the second street after the bridge. Address: #42, Furshtatskaya Ul. Location: metro Chernyshevskaya. Tel.: (812) 272-3100.

Street Life. Heir to the famous 69 gay club (the same spaces occupied) turned out to be very straight. The new club is a serious rival for JFC jazz club also aimed on wealthier and classy audience with a good taste for old and contemporary music trends. Daily live performances in the evening and DJ sets at night covering all trendy music styles are standard for majority of decent night clubs, but the choice of bands here is quite unconventional: no rock or heavier music styles, but all shades of experimental, jazz, funk, soul and r’n’b are covered. Club is not even a month old and has not received much attention, maybe the next few months will show if it’s going to be a successful club project as we get more feedback from people. Music schedule haven’t settled down yet so look at what’s on section for announcements.
Address: #6, 2nd Krasnoarmeiskaya. Location: metro Tekhnologichesky institute, Tel.: (+7 812) 316 72 02

Jazz Philharmonic Hall. (PWT) Concerts most days, 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Entrance 100 to 120 rubles. Tickets in advance at box-office, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jazz philharmonic hall belongs to odious Russian jazz musician and producer David Goloshyokin, known for his ultra-conservative approach to music. He was very disappointed when Hiram Bullock (famous jazz-rock guitar player from New York), when playing a solo jumped off the stage and started walking on the listener’s tables barefoot. David is keen on older type of jazz from the 40’s and 50’s so if you’re not into oldies you better try JFC club or something else.
Address: #27, Zagorodny Pr. Location: metro Vladimirskaya/Dostoevskaya. Tel.: (812) 164-8565. .

Jazz Time Bar. (PWT) CLOSED in 2007 - now there's a shop. New little club is younger brother of JFC which is trademark already. Smaller bands and duos play daily, starting at 9 p.m. Located in the old artist’s quarters of Mokhovaya ulitsa, place got a good atmosphere and audience. Inexpensive food and bar - perfect for quiet evening chat with your friends, backed by good ‘ol jazz tunes. Admission: under 100 rubles when the band is playing.
Address: #41, Mokhovaya Ul. Location: metro Chernyshevskaya. Tel. (812) 273 5379.

Jimi Hendrix. Former Armenian diner “Shagane” was once turned into a blues club, (using Hendrix’ name for commercial reasons) with a little

help from Russian blues patriarch Valery Belinov, who was fired by the owner right after the work was done. National Armenian cuisine is great, though loud music may not help you to digest substantial meet meals. It's located in the basement of an old building, quite small inside, but cozy. Food is the only good thing there, sound is a downer. Drinks are for around $2, meals for $2-10.
Address: Liteiny prospekt, #33. Location: 2 minutes to Puppet Theater, 10 minutes to Nevski prospekt. Directions: Walk up Liteiny prospekt from Nevski prospekt, the club will be on the right, after Nekrasova street. Map: C3 (object #6); Phone: (812) 279-8813. Concerts start at 20.00. Cover: daytime - free, concerts - $2.

Neo Jazz Club. (PWT) During the day it’s called “Mukha Tsokotukha” (because
Neo jazz club Petersburg
of its location – right across the street from Mukhina Art College). Neat design, although the club has still yet to find its style. This place has only few tables and not enough space for the drummer, so the bands are small jazz combos normally. Open daily, 9a.m. to midnight. Entrance is around 50 rubles after 8 p.m.
Address: #14, Solyanoi Per. Tel.: (812) 273-3830.

Palitra Art Cafe (PWT) CLOSED! Now they sell Doner Kebab there... originally was launched as a café of Palitra Gallery, now defunct. Nowadays photo and art exhibitions are held right at the cafe and you can buy artworks right off the walls. Located in the heart of the city it’s a great place to have a cup of coffee on a way from the Hermitage and for a dinner at night. Club invites to play pretty much the same bands as Neo Jazz Club, Sunduk and Jimi Hendrix club.
Address: #5, Malaya Morskaya Ul. Location: metro Nevsky Prospect. Tel.: (812) 312-3435.

Corinthia Club
(PWT) the only club in St Petersburg paying close attention to world & ethnic music in so far. Salsa, Flamenco and Arabian drum music concerts, ethnic dance parties – no showbiz and pathetic cheesy pop. Admission is symbolic (around 50 rubles).
Address: Gostiny Dvor, B.Konyushennaya st., #29, tel.: (812) 117-8151.

Khrapkoff — Khrapkoff hosts a contemporary dance school during the day, but turns into a club with live music at weekend nights. Although Latin styles dominate, sometimes swing, jive and funk parties are organized. Most people come to dance so it’s an alternative to nightclub disco parties. Bar open daily, 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. (weekdays), 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Friday, Saturday). Live concerts followed by dance parties, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Friday, Saturday). Milonga (Argentine tango) parties at 10 p.m. Sunday. Entrance 50 to 100 rubles (after 9 p.m.) Concerts start at 10 p.m.
Address: 12 Mytninskaya Ul. M: Ploshchad Vosstaniya. Tel.: (812) 274-4368
