Fishfabrique.
A part of "Pushkinskaya, 10" cultural center. From
the 1994 FishFabrique (also called "Fishka" by St.Peterburgers)
has been one of the most popular clubs in St. Petersburg and
one of the best. It was the first club with alternative music.
Since that time almost every St.Petersburg band has played here.
Fishfabrique is a favorite place for local alternative musicians
and cult artists. Design of the club, that was made by well known
group of Russian artists "Rechniki" and "ACHE",
is also worth seeing. Table football (kicker), cheap bar, tiny
beer garden in the back in the warmer months, movies in original
languages on big screen, great location right off the main street.

sometimes(“Cleaning women” from Finland, for example).

Che
Cafe-Club.
(PWT)Named after the legendary Cuban revolution hero, Che is aimed
primarily at trendy young people and trendy old people
who have enough dough. Open 24 hours. Live music nightly, sometimes
even twice: around 7 p.m. and at midnight, both live bands and
DJs; see what’s
on in St. Petersburg page for dates. There’s a
club card system but foreigners are often let in with no questions
asked.
Address: #3,
Poltavskaya Ulitsa. Location: metro Ploshchad
Vosstaniya. Tel.: (812) 277-7600.
Money Honey & City Club.
A popular rockabilly, rock'n'roll and country music club. The
interior is made in American style, there are three floors full
of entertainment. The first (ground) floor is a nice "rock'n'roll" bar,
serving quite cheap food and beer (possible to eat for $5 with
a drink!). The second floor has a bar, dancefloor, pool rooms,
and other games. The third floor is a kind of VIP lounge with
a view on the dancefloor. Watch out for security guys (former
militia employees) – they are pretty rude sometimes, do
not expect good manners and politeness. Former musical director
and old staff of City now operate Red Club, regularly inviting
famous western musicians, bands and DJs. Popular with young people, "cowboys",
and foreigners for cheap thrills and easy pick ups. Admission
(100 rubles – $3.5, normally) paid at the doors of Money
Honey will automatically give you access to City club.
Address: Apraksin dvor, #13. Location: metro
Gostini Dvor. Directions: walk from the metro Gostiny Dvor
and walk down Sadovaya street. The 3rd street on the left is Apraksin
pereulok. Phone: (812) 310-0549. Internet: http://www.moneyhoney.org/
Cynic. (PWT)
Self-described on its web site as a “marginal den”,
this is the most popular student bar in the city. Cheap grub
and beer, great selection of music and occasional free live gigs,
a bohemian audience of local and foreign students. Garlic breads
a specialty order from the bar and, when they're ready, get informed
by the barman yelling in the megaphone: "Zaberite grenki!" ("Get
your garlic breads!"). You can witness local and sometimes
foreign stars of all kinds getting drunk together with plain
mortals. Ventilation is very poor, which means if you don’t
like cigarette smoke – absolutely avoid this place after
7 p.m.
Address: Antonenko per. #4. Location: metro Sennaya
Ploshchad. Directions: walk out of Moskovski railway station
and take a right turn. Open hours: sun-thu 11.00-3.00,
fri-sat 10.00-7.00
.
Orlandina. (PWT)
Temporarily closed! New rock club, run by alternative
music record label “CARAVAN” and
located in the same building that Pereval club occupied from
1995 to 1997. The place has been completely renovated and redesigned
by the artist Nikolai Kopeikin, became larger and lost a bit
of “hippie” flavor Pereval was known for. Concerts
every night at 7 p.m. Entrance 50 rubles ($1.7) (Monday through
Thursday), 100 rubles ($3.5) (Friday through Sunday). Club hosts
rock festivals with 5 to 10 bands playing short sets twice a
month.
Address: #36a, Ulitsa Mira. Location: metro
Petrogradskaya. No phone; call Caravan at (812)
110-6536 for information. Web: www.caravanrecords.spb.ru/orlandina/
Jambala. (PWT)
New reggae bar and restaurant throwing three live concerts
a week (reggae-dub-world music). Place has just opened so it’s
still to find its audience. Nice menu and selection of drinks
so that your stomach can have its fun too. Funny design compromising
very average shop or office style with apparent signs of Jah
presence namely Jamaican tri-colors, Marleys and Toshes staring
on you from the walls, you know. Located right between Vasileostrovskaya
and Primorskaya metro stations on Vassilievsky Island it’s
likely to attract Jah connoisseurs from surrounding neighborhoods
then clubbing crowd from the center. Though, keeping in mind
that winter
is on the way, pretty soon it will be so nice to spend a night
sipping rum
and thinking about the summer while listening to old
Jamaican songs of
freedom.
Monday-Thursday & Sundays 10.00 until the last rastaman, Friday-Saturday
10.00-5.00, It¡s smart to reserve a table in advance.
Address: #36a, Ulitsa Mira. Location: metro
Primorskaya or
Vasileostrovskaya. Phone: (812) 332 10 77.
Deep
Sound.
(PWT) continues the old city tradition of using bomb-shelters
in a peaceful way for underground music industry in particular.
There’s no room for big crowds, but quite enough
for several dozens of college students. Live concerts of rock
and pop bands 6 days a week, cool DJ parties on Friday nights
and a very reasonable admission policy sound very promising for
a rival of famed Griboyedov Club which turns 8 years this
year.
Affordable drinks and nice (if bomb shelter could ever be
nice and cozy) atmosphere guaranteed. Opened Monday-Saturday
20.00-6.00, admission 100-150 rbls
Address: #31,
Ul. Chernyakhovskogo (watch for a bunker in the yard). Location: Ligovsky
Prospect metro. Tel.: (812) 340-9111. Web: www.frontclub.ru
Liverpool. (PWT)
The Beatles tribute bar, with photos of the band and other memorabilia
all over. Live bands playing Beatles covers and 60s-70s music
at night. Ringo Starr gave a press-conference here before his
concert in St. Petersburg a couple of years ago. Opened Sunday
through Thursday, 11am to 2am.; Friday, Saturday, 11 p.m. to
5 a.m. Live concerts, 8pm to 11.30pm. Free entrance.
Address: #16, Ul. Mayakovskaya.
Tel: (812) 279-2054. Web: www.liverpool.ru
Stary
Dom. (PWT)
Formerly managed by punk band Korol i Shut has changed
its style to the opposite. Looking for larger crowds,
it’s soon to follow the beaten track of playing
Russian pop songs rotated on the radio and selling cheap
booze to kids from outskirts of town. Well now it’s
better to simply avoid it.
Address: #115, Pr. Metallistov
(Polyustrovo Hotel). Take minibus-taxi # 107 from Finlyandsky
Station. Tickets will cost between 80 and 500 rubles ($2.60 to
$16.25). Tel.: (812) 303-8200, 540-9344. Web: www.starydom.spb.ru
