|

Hello to all,
I hope that someone might be able to answer my question. I'm going to visit my wife who lives in Khubra, which is near Komsomolsk-on-Amur. She's told me that i can not stay where she is from because of the military base that is there. i understand that with no problem. She's also saying the same about Komsomolsk as well and that the closest place that I'll be able to stay is Khabarovsk. If this is true, can anyone tell me of a good place to stay that isn't too costly. Most places I've found will be around $2,632 for about 28 days. Any help in this would be great. |

| Last year I stayed at the hotel Amur for 3 nights. The rate was around 2500r per 24 hours, midday to midday. You can probably negotiate a lesser rate for a longer stay. |

| So if I wanted to, i could just show up and see if they have a room? Not a bad idea, I'm just worried about the address I need to put on my Visa request. I don't want to take chances and get into trouble with them. |

If you are getting a tourist invitation through an agency they will name the hotel for you. My situation was different, I was on a private visa registered for 3 months elsewhere.
I have heard though, that this city is a little more strict with immigration than most. Something to be aware of if you are entering Russia there. Check with your agency. |

I'm entering Russia in Moscow because that was the best way i could find to get there. I hope that i don't have any problems. i shouldn't that is. Looks like i'll have to talk to the invite provider and see if i can get them to tell me in english, yes i know i suck because i don't understand or read Russian, what hotel they chose.
Thank you for helping me in this. i know that i don't leave till next month, but the sooner i can get this all figured out, the better off i'll be in the long run. |

Sounds like your wife doesn't really want you to come all that much. Most of these places can accept and register foreign tourists... |

I stayed in Komsomolsk Na Amure in July 2007. There's really no need to stay in Khabarovsk.
I entered Russia from Mongolia, & got the mandatory visa registration in Irkutsk. I then travelled Irkutsk > Bratsk > Severobaikalsk > Tynda > Komsomolsk > Khabarovsk > Vladivostok > Seoul.
Lonely Planet Russia had several tourist hotels listed for KNA / KOA where you could stay.
Some pics I took in both towns are on:
Trek Earth
Trek Lens
I actually had more trouble trying to find a place to stay in Khabarovsk. The place recommended in Lonely Planet, turned me away, because I didn't have the 3 day registration visa. (You need one for every town you spend 3 days or more in.) I had just spent 89 hours on the train so didnt have one. Always keep your train or bus tickets as proof of transit. |
