There seem to be many questions on the subject of needing to reregister each time one travel out of Russia, and return. Usually the conclusion seems to be that this needs to be done. What is the base of this conclusion, really?

For what it's worth, I usually buy a one-year business visa, register for the entire year upon arrival (at the post office, for around 100 roubles), and leave and return to Russia as I desire, without any more registrations for that year. (What a relief.)

The border authorities are not concerned with registrations as long as the visa is valid, and the local authorities are satisfied as long as I'm registered while in Russia. (Disclaimer: This is not actual legal advice...)
