Hello All!

I am having a bit of a crisis. I will study in Russia beginning on 1 August, but my invitaiton is late and I will not be able to acquire the visa before I leave Australia (my country of residence). I had planned to get the visa in Munich, but have recently learned that German Russian consular posts no longer grant visas to non-residents of Germany. Hence my dilemna. I can re-route my trip through either Riga or Helsinki. Does anyone have any advice on applying for a student visa as a non-resident in either of these cities? Do these cities offer expedited processing?

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,

Douglas

Many foreigners (especially US nationals) apply in Riga, Latvia for their visas without any problems. I do not expect that this is different for getting a student visa as well.

Douglas,

Did you/are you by any chance studying at Novosibirsk State University. The reason I ask is that I too have had this same problem and will apply for my student visa in Copenhagen. I am to study at NSU and after my contact there told me the Invitation would be arriving very late, I told him I would get the visa from Denmark. He replied that a student from Australia could not get a student visa from Germany, so maybe I would have the same problem. (The consulate there have told me it's okay.)

Are you this student? If so, then I would like to ask you about NSU... If not, then sorry for that spiel.

Tom
