Hi,
I will be visiting my mother in law soon and wondered how I can go about using a tourist visa.. Last time I visited Moscow I booked a hotel on two seperate bookings. Stayed in the hotel one night...Canceled the second booking when I arrived and stayed with my wife in her Moscow flat....
Any chance of getting caught a second time? Maybe it was a little risky last time!!! 
Private visa I understand takes a long time?? |

Go on a tourist visa.
the only advantage of a private visa is that it can last 90 days rather than 30 for the tourist visa but it is a PITA.
Get any old bullshit tourist reservation via the internet for £x and get your visa. In russia, if you stay with your mother-in-law, she can register you at her apartment via the post office. Get your wife to read the details about this on the site so she can explain to her mother.
Avoid the private visa unless you need more than 90 days.
