waytorussia.net states that a double room in hotel Krasnoyarsk (http://www.waytorussia.net/Siberia/Krasnoyarsk/Accommodation.html) is $15 - $25 per person per night, but when going to the hotel booking page, the prices come up as $143+, have prices really changed that much since the page was written, or is there a better way to book a room?

I'm not attached to this hotel, but I'm looking for something inexpensive. Does anybody have a recommendation for a place to stay in Krasnoyarsk and Nizhni Novogorod?

Hi there again
Am researching as well, as mentioned on your other post. I have been recommended to contact a local school teacher who arranges home-stays. These are not really cheap, but looking at other stuff on the net, it seems reasonable- plus you get to meet locals in their own environment. I'm going to contact him and see what he has to offer. His name is Anatoliy Brewhanov
email: anatoliy14@yahoo.com ph:+7 3912 451148
+7 3912 512-654 (mob.). He has a site www.SibTourGuide.com.
You might like to look up Uncle Pasha's page www.cheap-moscow.com and follow the links to places out of Moscow.
Your comment about price rises. Apparently there have been significant rises in costs since October 2007. I couldn't imagine that much of a difference, though!
Can keep you posted if you like

Pstroot,
Probably a typo but the Hotel K is definitely up around the $145 mark. AFAIK there are only two other hotels in Krasnoyarsk, The Tourist across the bridge on Pridmostnaya (not the place to be in peak hour traffic!!) and one somewhere else. There is also a "railway workers" hotel on Krasnoyarsky Rabochy but dubious at best. My wife & I go there a fair bit (her hometown) but she is going solo this year after a 2 year absence so no doubt things have changed. Hopefully she'll tell what!

I have stayed in the Oktyabrskaya twice in Kras, which is much nicer than Tourist but a little more expensive, but it is cheaper that hotel Krasnoyarsk and is near the bottom end of Mira - great location.

I think the cheaper hotel of choice for the company I work for is the Vostok, but it's on the wrong side of the river if you are there for tourism and further away from the heart of the city than Tourist is.

Oktyabrskaya cost me about $200 per day for a single bed in Feb this year and something similar for a double bed suite last December, so I guess the prices fluctuate depending on the time of year and local events...
