I'm stopping in novosibirsk and nizhni novgorod on my trans-mongolian route this summer but am struggling to find any decently priced accomodation despite finding occasional links on the internet. does anyone know how i (a non-russian speaker) can arrange this? thanks!

If you are looking for hostel-like prices, this is impossible in these two cities, unless you manage to find some really run-down Soviet style hotel (which I personally couldn't). Your option could be to find people and rent an apartment together which costs about $50 US for all. Or you could camp somewhere in Akademgorodok. The cheapest hotel room would be $20-$30 US (see Novosibirsk Accommodation section).

You can also try our resource to help find a roommate in Russia: http://flatmates.ru (click "English")

We just traveled from Honk Kong to Moscow on motorcycles. In Novosibirsk, we stayed in the Koloc (colosse) holidays resort giving right on a beach on the Orb river, with tennis sauna bar and restaurant facilities

The price of a bed was 500 rbls per night. It is a bit out of town, a taxi from the center to the resort cost about 200 rbls.

I dont know if as an individual foreigner you can get in there, since usually hotels have to register you when you book a room. May be the administrator of the site could give you more informations about it.

Hi rrrich, did you ever find a reasonably priced place to stay in Nizhni Novgorod? I'll be spending a couple nights there on my way through on the Trans-Siberian in June and am having the same problem as you with finding reasonably priced hotels by searching online. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Hi there Paul
I'm doing research for a trip myself (August 2008) so would appreciate any info you might unearth. Just thought I'd mention that the original post is nearly 4 years old. Not sure if you realized that or not!
