Sorry, if this has been asked before, I couldn't find any non-confusing answer to my question and hope you can help me.

I'm Russian and my boyfriend is American. He wants to visit Russia this summer while I'm there. We've booked the cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow and then he plans to spend 5 more days in my home town (Nizhniy Novgorod). He wants to apply for a visa using a company that would deal with paperwork (they're called genvisa.com) and is a partner with the cruise company. They have no problem providing the visa support for the cruise part, but they said he need an official invitation for the Nizhniy Novgorod part of his trip.

His itinerary is as follows :

8 aug - arrive at St. Petersburg and board the cruise
8 -20 aug - on the cruise
20 aug - arrive in Moscow and take a train to Nizhniy
21 - 26 aug - in Nizhniy

The Genvisa company said that the cruise company will register him after he arrives on board. I'm just really confused about the second part of his trip.

1. Can he get an invitation through Waytorussia for the Nizhniy Novgorod part of his trip?

2. If the answer to the 1st question is "yes" (and I SO hope it is, otherwise I don't know what to do) - would it mean his invitation is going to be for the whole time he's in Russia? The questionnaire you fill out to get an invitation asks for the dates of your trip, but he's going to be on the cruise for 2/3 of his stay in Russia which will have his own invitation...

Please, please, help me. I'm so confused about all this!

Hello Puzzled! First let me qualify my comments with the fact that I am definately NOT an expert on this... But, having asked some similar questions not so long ago I would think that you could have your boyfriend abtain visa support from one of the many companies that offer this service (here at Way To Russia for example) and specify dates that encompass his time in Russia. Apply for a tourist visa. He can then register his visa wherever. The cruise company shouldn't care as long as he has a valid visa... He can then registar at Hotels or even tourist agencies. I just did this in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think that's what we're going to do at the end. I just found a post on this forum about a similar situation and that was the recommendation there as well...
