| Hello I am going to take the Transsib at the end of August, begininig of September and will arrive in Moscw. From there, I have to go back to Germany, any suggestions how to get there? (Don't want to fly, still want to travel). Did anyone try a route he can recommend now? Thanks |

| I once took a train from St Petersburg to Helsinki, then flew to Prague and took another train to Budapest and yet another to Munich. Bit of a long way round, but very scenic and interesting. |

Day 2: Travel from Berlin to Moscow on the 'Moskva Express'. This runs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays & Sundays until 23 May 2008, then daily except Saturdays from 24 May to 3 October 2008, then four times a week again from October onwards. It leaves Berlin Hauptbahnhof at 15:22 and arrives in Moscow Byelorruski at 20:35 the next day (Day 3 from London). You can double-check the days when this train runs using http://bahn.hafas.de. The 'Moskva Express' uses the same air-conditioned Russian sleeping-cars as the Brussels-Moscow train, with comfortable 1, 2 and 3-berth compartments with washbasin, see the pictures above. A Russian restaurant car runs between Brest and Moscow serving inexpensive meals, drinks and snacks. Map of Moscow showing Byelorruski station. |

i was thinking about going to helsinki as weill and then some how over to kopenhagen or stockholm.
the train to berlin is very interesting as well, but i think you still need transit visa for white russia and i cant get this here in china. best would be a way where i dont need another visa  (btw, i am german) |

Jan,
Take a train to St. Petersburg, explore the city and surroundings for 2-3 days, then take a train or bus to Helsinki. Buses cost something like $10.
From Helsinki go to Turku - a couple of hours by train. Take a ferry from Turku to Stokholm and go down through Sweden to Kopenhavn... |

Jan,
I travelled to St. Petersburg several times. I worked in Helsinki and Turku and took a ferry from Turku to Stockholm and back. I flew to Kopenhavn from Helsinki for the weekend and for another long weekend I went to Norway which impressed me most of all in the area. Actually I didn't have time to travel by land and I had to fly. |
