talking about your plight a friend said

"...His best bet is to sell the ural and buy a new izh planeta in Russia, get it registered in anyones name, get the right permits and do that trip, after that sell the bike.

If he wanted a newish ural, do the trip on the izh and sell it when finished or just give the bike away, then fly home and buy a new ural in oz.

You can't import a bike made after 1989 unless you can prove it was owned, used and registered by you for that period."

Danbrew,
I know what that's like Laughing , except on a R1100GS and a few thousand kilometres away!

Dneprider,
You ever run into Sinus from Vladivostok?

replying off topic. No, sadly I missed meeting Sinus. I had emailed him my details if he needed accom etc but before I knew it he had already stayed at a friends house 500km north of me and had left on his ride. Never know, one day we may meet if I can get to Vladistostok for the "Face to Ocean" rally. The Iron Tigers sound like a great bunch.

back to topic, any luck Mr Uralrider?

Good God!
Who would have thought one would have so many problems just wishing to buy a thing in one country living in another. That formal-paper-thing is always like that, never without problems.

Anyhow i'm impressed with your plans. Throughout Russia plus Mongolia. That may seem kind of exotic to many people.
Wish you good luck both in your problem and during the trip!
Travelling is one of the greatest things and experiences after all.
