Insuremytrip has a site dedicated to travelers who need insurance to obtain a travel visa. Here is the link:
http://www.insuremytrip.com/imv.index-1009-0-0-0.html
It does not matter if you are using your mom's credit card to make the travel insurance payment. Just be sure you enter your name & address as the traveler on the customer form. If you provide a fax number, you will be able to have the embassy letter within 15 minutes. You can always call them if you need help or have questions. Here is the number: (800) 590-2650 |

Scott, I question whether you, as an american, *need* travelers insurance. While it is always a good idea to have insurance, I have always simply written "insured by my employer" and know of many people who have written "parents" "self", etc. I don't believe that insurance is required for americans. Others will experience here will chime in, I'm sure.
I'm not saying an expatriation policy isn't a good idea, but you may wish to consider something like medjet for that - www.medjet.com. I've used them for several years and know firsthand of someone being air evaced from Peru - that would have easily cost him $150,000.
You sound young (mother's credit card), so it's unlikely you'll have a serious malady that will require treatment. But if you do, it's pay as you go. And I'd bet that most policies aren't going to cover you at places like the American Hospital in Moscow.

Thanks Danbrew,
Oh you made me feel good (you must be young)I just turned 45-i just also survived my divorce, reason im using moms card for large purchases. This is my first trip requiring a visa and upon reading the rules,i figured i would cross all t-s and dot all i-s.The medical policy for my weeks stay in st pete was 21.00 us $.Once i get familiar with this process i can do things differently.I will check out medjet.com .I questioned this also-but im new to this and dont wish any delays.I certainly appreciate your reply-information well taken. Thanks Danbrew, scott b. |

| well... it *IS* a matter of how young you feel. I still can't get over that I'm not 18 any longer. |

| You just want to make sure any medical evacuation policy you are looking at has no medical necessity or nearest appropriate facility causes. If so, it will be up the company, not you and your doctor, to decide if you will be flown home. You may also want to check our airambulancecard.com, they are similar to medjet (but cheaper) and will get you home. |
