Not one of his best efforts, but the War Nerd is always worth a read:

http://exiledonline.com/war-nerd-south-ossetia-the-war-of-my-dreams/

And this one has a focus on John McCain's reaction, but it's still worth reading since some people seem to be under the impression that Russia somehow provoked or started this conflict:

To my mind it is already historically proved, that Russia everywhere is guilty!)))
Though actually all not so. Today D.Medvedev has already signed the decree that armies disengage from Ossetia, and it stops violent imposing the world of Georgia.
It is clear, that Georgia would not untie independently war, not having thus of support of other countries.

P.s.telle vie, telle mort

Indeed Georgia has no support , it will come as no surprise to people here that it has since been proven that Georgia has been lying to the world about what has been happening , I listened as an Irish reporter (they have a reputation for not being biased )questioned the Georgian foriegn minister , aside from not answering the important questions , the reporter told him several times that he did not believe his answers , and after all this I found it sickening that after telling so many lies that he then asked for our countries support , there are 2 chances of their getting our support , nil and none
I think (and this is only my opinion) that Russia's problem with being listned to by the international community is not what they say but how they are saying it , Russia has a very good foriegn minister (I can never remember that mans name) he is blunt , but honest and to the point , and while he does a good job , in this case Russia seemed not to be getting its point across too clearly , I would be considered moderate in my thinking and having been to Russia several times I have a great respect for its people and its culture (not so much its government but then those are only my observations , I dont have to live under them) and even I thought this event was agressive and brutal and Russia had over reacted , however on seeing more of the facts I still do not support violence but I do now see where Russia was comming from and why it did what it did.
I would also like to say that I support the Irish position that despite what Georgia has told us , we do not see any evidence that the Russian military targeted or killed any civillians , and if any were killed (which we doubt as there is no evidence) then it was accidental

The whole purpose was to show the world what a fool that Saakshivillli is and how much being a friend of the west is really worth?
If people think that the American gov't word is worth an ounce of piss, then ask the Kurds who were gassed by Hussein after the Gulf War. They revolted based they would have received American military support. No only did they not receive the support, but me thinks they sold Hussein the gas to kill the Kurds.
Who knows what is going to happen now? But Georgia would not have done anything without approval.

Looks like a strong response is comming down the line , notice on E.U. travel advice in the last few hours ; "with immidiate effect all E.U. citizens are advised to evacuate Georgia pending expected escallitation of military action in the region , anyone planning to travel to the region should cancel plans and those with urgent travel need should contact Dept of Foriegn affairs or Dept of Defence"
also in the last few hours , Russia expected to be expelled from the G-8 and the WTO , a possible ban on Russian oil and gas exports along with other trade embargo's , and worringly , all NATO training excersises are canceled
If the aim of this mess was to prevent U.S. missiles being placed close to Russian borders then it appears to have back-fired as Poland and Lithuania have said they will now accept a "substantially larger number of U.S. missiles" to be based in their countries

I wonder would Russian natural gas exports be banned so quickly in the dead of winter? How much of Europe's natural gas imports come from Russia?

"Bush warns Russia; Medvedev orders halt to action"

The headline makes it appear that Russia has bowed to U.S. demands. Whether this is true or not, only Russia knows for sure.

The discovery of 3 super-gas feilds in Europe and the finding of the biggest oil well since 1966 in Brazil , a ban on Russian oil and gas could come faster than most people think , the global supply crisis is cooling fairly fast , which is why the prices are comming down again so fast

I also think so. And I am also sure UE will not be able to stand for Ukraine if it happen. That's why Ukraine should be integrated to NATO as soon as possible and Mac Cain be the next USA President.

Within the last 30 mins , " the E.U. and U.S. will provide all support including military , for the removal of Russian naval bases in Ukraine" Ukraine too fears it will be next and is taking steps to remove all Russian influences from its soil as it claims it was an unwilling pastisipant in the conflict in Georgia pointing out that ships used in the blockade of Georgia were based in Ukraine and this is against the agreement it signed with Moscow in 1992
It is believed but not confirmed that U.S. military equipment has begun arriving in Ukraine
The E.U. has stated in the last few minutes that Russia is in breach of existing international law as its forces are still in Georgia after the ceasefire came into effect , E.U. planes have begun to deliver food and medical supplies to Georgia , and is on the verge of dispatching a "task force" to ensure that there are no foriegn military personel remaining in Georgia

Russia gives Russian passports to South Ossetians. Would Russia also give Russian passports to Ukrainians who are pro-Russian? I have read that ideologically, half of Ukrainians are pro-West and the other half are pro-Russian.
