Hello....first I would like to comment on your WONDERFUL site with TONS of information!

I am an American that will be travelling to Sakhalin (Russian Far East) for an extended period of time (hopefully up to 1 year). My girlfriend lives there, and I will be staying with her at first, then getting my own apartment. Ideally I would like to get a job there teaching English while learning Russian. I understand that there are probably work permits involved with this -- my plans don't HINGE on getting a job -- for now I'm simply trying to GET there.

I WAS planning on getting a private visa, and unfortunately I have already had my girlfriend begin to collect the necessary documents when I began reading online (from your site as well as others) how difficult and problematic the Private visa is. NOW I am thinking about applying for a Business visa...It sounds like a MUCH better way to spend an extended period of time in Russia. As a matter of fact I am ready to apply on your site right away, but I would like to confirm a few things... I don't want there to be any snags.

First, as I had my girlfriend collect information about the Private visa, I know that there IS an OVIR office in Sakhalin. I MAY want to go to Vladivostok eventually, but for now I'm only thinking Sakhalin. Would I encounter any problems with registering my visa at the OVIR office there?

Second, I was shooting for a late September departure date, but I am willing to be flexible...money is not an object in getting the visa...I would simply like to get as close to September as I can. If I IMMEDIATELY put in an application for the visa, would a departure date 2 months out be feasible?

Finally, I have all my passport information but the passport itself was sent in for expedited processing...I am having pages added to the visa section...I will get the passport back in about 2 weeks. I have photocopies available, but will I need to send in my actual passport right away?

Basically I would like to go ahead and begin the procedure to get the Invitation and Visa for a Business visa. From everything I have read this seems like the best course of action for me. Before I do, though, I would like a second opinion. Is there any possible problems that might arise for my situation? What does everyone think? If I get the go-ahead I will begin my online application within a few days.

Thank you,

Andrew

To update:

From what I've read on the forums here, registering the business visa isn't such a problem...I guess my biggest question is:

If I apply for the business invitation/visa from this website, the 'travel agency' will be a company that you have a partnership with, correct?
The BIG question is does that company HAVE to be in the city that I will be visiting, or can they SEND me the necessary documents for me to register with the local OVIR office?
