Hello everybody...
I just happened to have this question. I am from Mexico, City but I have met some Russian people in the US. I actually worked with a Russian woman who was my boss for some time at the place I used to work. I`m not a racist or anything related to that ... as I think that everyone has the right to act and think the way they want as long as they respect others' rights and feelings. But from my experience I would say that most Russian are deeply serious and cold... do you know the reason for this behaviour. Of course, I`m not saying that ALL Rusian people living in the US have that tendecy... but generally speaking is there a reason for that...?
I hope I won't be taken mistaken... as I just want to know more about people and their cultural background. During these days, our global village makes us interact with people from every corner of the world and I think it`s important to learn a bit on how to deal with differences in personalities so that we can be more tolerant... |

Well, Im Italian girl from Milan, now living and studying in Moscow as it was my dream for a long time. So till I go to Moscow I used to think that Russians are very warm-looking people? typical easterners. And of course I was quite shoking when I saw this Nordic coldness, emotionless and serious faces. You know, and do not look at eacn other, esp in the eyes! I thought that Russians are lonely people and stuff. Now, when I already living here I see things different. Russians not lonely at all, sometimes smiling (actually, they are smiling a lot! and belive me, the are not that cold. And I sometimes have problems with my bf, cos you now, Im Italian and very emotionate and he is just so so cold in emotions at times that it drivez me crazy;)
All in all, Russians are the great people, and they are different from each other;) |

I'm a Polish-American, have had a few encounters with Russians in Poland, America and Spain and often found them to be very cold, restrained and distant, sometimes downright rude. At least at first.
In Polish New York, we are rather affectionate and extroverted and when we like you, we really, really like you, get angry easily but don't keep grudges, don't hide feelings, it's normal to kiss and hug friends etc. so it was a culture clash .
I've always been told "Oh Russians-they are just like us" by Polish people who've been there so it was a bit of a surprise, too.
I bet someone on this board is going to explain that it's Russian national character, recent history or completely not true.... |
