By any chance, are you from Turkey? Being in Turkey, I met some turkish guys at markets. Some of them not only have surprisingly good knowledge of Russian but talk it almost without accent. I have an impression that they were to Russia multiple times (maybe they were students) as they were able to discuss specific places of Moscow and/or St. Petersburgh. If you are from Turkey you could have information from the first hands. |

Well I belive I've found a great comparison.
There is EXACTLY as much racism in Russia as school shooting in the US.
Some Russian criminals beat up some poor Asian guy. This makes to the news, shit hits the fan, add anti-Russian propaganda-(de)formed attitudes: most Americans believe Russians are nationalists.
Some American dumb ass starts firing his gun in a public school. Same sequence: shit -> fan -> propaganda -> public opinion. Most Russians strongly believe there is a fat chance you are killed next time you do the shopping in a local mall, that every senior lady carries a loaded .45 Colt in her purse and that guns are generally allowed among teenagers in US public schools. |

To bring a fire into the thread.
A VDV major teach young cadets how to handle a difficult situation at a restaurant or at a cafe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVUeS91elvE
"to work" for a VDV military means "to fight against sombody".
Major: ... You won't be disgraced. Woman plays even more.
(cadets select a guy who will play woman)
Major: We'll won't dress you in the women clothes of course.
One of cadets: Woman.
Major: Who?
Cadet woman: Woman. (in the sence "It's me")
Major: I'm a man. You are all "khachiki". F*ck. Understand? You are sitting there, in the corner. You are sitting at your own table.
Major: Beginning to work... Who is the f*cking senior? One that has longer pr*ck... sorry for rude comparsion.
Cadet woman: Yeah. )))
Major: Clear? You are walking here. Go here! Address to woman: "You. Chick. Let's f*cking dance". Of course you see we are having a rest and drink.
Cadet senior khachik: (clamps "woman's" shoulder) Let's dance, chick.
Major: Yeah... Dance... (to all cadets) What will be your actions? We are eating soup, you see. Understand? First movement. You pick the bottle up and throw it into his ugly face. You get the fork: "Ha! Let's dance ". (hits the senior khachik in the neck or jaw and throws him on the floor) So we have just f*cking danced.
Cadet woman: (silently)
Major: A crowd is coming... (to the "khachiks") You are protecting your friend. Clear?
(The "crowd" is coming)
Major: So I'm throwing a woman under the table. (to the woman) Sit down and don't even breath. Take away spike heel from her leg and work by it... (He is working... a lot of blood and falling bodies presumed)
Major: (To the remaining "khachik") Well, are you ready? Will you dance with me? Go forward, protect your f*cking fallen friends... (last body falls).
Major: (stifling last one by a table-cloth) And I'm (noise here) a police. Clear? So... have we just played and danced?
Cameraman: Yes sir !
Major: Questions? |

But when talking about racism in Russia or anti-non-White sentiment...who qualifies as "White" in Russia? Europeans? What about Eastern Europeans whom look a little darker (I know I've seen some from Bulgaria and Romania whom are not Gypsy)? What about some French and Italians? Are dark-brown/black-haired people with White/pale skin considered "non-White" over in Russia? I remember seeing some documentary on racism in Russia and people with dark-brown/black hair and White skin are usually thought of as coming from the Caucasus region, and ultimately considered "non-White".
Can anybody with a little insight comment on this? |

It is interesting. Somebody makes movies about "racism in Russia". Who is it?

I've never seen such kind of person. However caucasian people have noticeable facial features, hair structure, accent and behavior (well it is the only irritating feature). Dark skin isn't only and isn't key feature. I don't know about Italians (I've seen only one personally) but in my opinion French people are very different from causcasians.
The latest example of behaviour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXm0M4oGLI8
A woman in the end of recording says: "Am I fuckin sleeping? Am I in my own city?". A man responds: "I've got it recorded. It can be uploaded to the Internet... to youtube! Easy." Nobody ever cares what they look like but many are upset by what they do. |

So the racism in Russia we hear about (no comment on whether it's exaggerated or not) is not about who "looks" foreign, but all about people who behave bad? There are many French of Mediterranean looks that could easily be confused with some Caucasians. |

According to wikipedia.
| wikipedia wrote: | | Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. |
For example I went to the RNU site http://www.rne.org and read their documents. I haven't found anything resembling wikipedia's deffinition of racism. It looks like people don't understand a difference between racism and nationalism.
Nobody says for example: "Tajiks are bad because they have dark skin. Russians are better than tajiks because they have different (better) appearance." but some say: "Tajiks are bad because they arrive to Russia illegally, steal workplaces and carry drugs". Life of guest-worker is very hard anyway without any nationalists.

Exactly.
Ironically but some Caucasians do everything in order to make Russians (here I mean all nations who live inside Russia) think bad of them. Example: I buy building materials on the different city markets (just seeking cheaper ones). Almost on every market a caucasian looking (please note, not asian-looking, not german-looking, not italian looking, not a negro etc) person apporaches me and offers an obviously stolen cell phones (relatively new phones without documents). I told about it to my colleagues (they are russians, bashkirs, tartars, kazakhs, jews, there is even a finnish guy) and they said they saw same things. They all expressed negative opinion about it. But one of them admitted he bought a phone from them. Guess what? He is only person who have caucasian roots, perhaps half-russian, half-caucasian (I can't determine precisely). Moreover he doesn't see anything wrong about it.
- Do you understand the phone is most likely stolen?
- Yes.
- And you still say it is ok to buy stolen things, don't you? You are supporting those thieves.
- So what? After all it's a good phone (Nokia 8910 or so). I've bought a car audio system "Kenwood" also, some cords are torn but I'll fix it. Wanna look?
It looks like he received "a proper" education from one of his parents. I can't explain it differently. It's all about education, social and/or ethnic group where children are grown. |

The French people DON'T look like Caucasian, at least those who are not mixed blooded.
And if some people don't have a European look in the south part of France it's simply because they don't have French roots. The south has always been the gate of immigration especially in 1962 when France had to "welcomed" millions of people from Algeria after the end of the war(only 1/3 had French roots) and the big majority stayed in the south. |
