sending a text from australia to vladivostok

Hi my first post here and first question can anybody help me please . I can ring my friends mobile from Aus and she can ring my mobile from Vladivostok yet neither can text . They send but never arrive at eachothers phones. Is there a secret we are unaware of . Any help would be appreciated .

You need to check if your and her mobile operator support SMS transfer between them. I have same situation with my Australian colleagues. We can talk, but we can't send SMS eachother. They use Optus (www.optus.com.au) and I use U-Tel (www.u-tel.ru). Unfortunately operators said that they wouldn't take any steps in order to make SMS transfer possible. Thus we use alternative (and cheap) ways to contact - e-mail, Skype, instant messenging, etc.

Paul,
I'll check with my wife, but I'm fairly certain your Russian friend has to have a "Federal" mobile number. IIRC (and again I'll check...) the moby number YOU dial should start "+9blahdeblah".
There is also the problem of cyrillic/latin texts being sent/received to said mobile phones.
