Hi,
I'm currently living in China, and planning to travel by train from Beijing to Moscow in July, with stops in several places. I've only been able make a reservation for the first leg of my journey, from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar, and I've been told I will have to buy other train tickets as I go along, so don't know what date I will enter and exit Russia. Is it possible to get a visa and then enter after the entry date on the visa, and leave before the exit date?
Also, does anyone know if it is difficult to buy tickets for different legs of the Transsiberian journey en route?
I'd appreciate any help or advice!

Absolutely, no problem. You can enter on any date after the entry date, and leave any time before 23:59 on the exit date.

I often caution people, DON'T OVERSTAY. If your travel arrangements are uncertain, I recommend planning to leave a day or two ahead of the exit date, so you can still get out if something doesn't go according to plan.

Only if you have a strict schedule to keep. If you can be a bit flexible with classes, times and (occasionally) dates, then it's okay to buy them as you go along. Just make buying your next ticket the first thing you do when you arrive in a new destination.
