I know this has been posted before, but I'm hoping for an update as I can't find any information from the last year or two.
I plan on traveling from Harbin to Vladivostok in late August. I have the Chinese and Russian visas. I know about the twice-weekly direct train which is extremely slow, but there's apparently an elusive daily bus which leaves Harbin Bus Terminal at 7:00am, costs 420 yuan, and takes about 12 hours to reach Vladivostok.
Does anyone have anymore information on this bus? Does anyone know the company? Has anyone taken this bus before?

I'm going to reply to my own question because I found out the answer the hard way. Hopefully this information will be of use to someone out there.
Last summer, I tried to find a bus from Harbin to Vladivostok. There are direct, daily buses from the Harbin bus terminal to Vladivostok. Tickets are sold on the second floor of the Harbin bus terminal. I had a Chinese friend reserve my ticket, then when I arrived to purchase the ticket I was told by the employee only Chinese and Russians were allowed to board the bus. I offered to pay double, then triple the price, but was refused.
In the end, I took a night train from Harbin to the Chinese border town Suifenhe, then at the bus terminal I was allowed to join a Russian tour group who was returning home to Vladivostok. I lucked out. If you're ever at the Suifenhe bus terminal, do not exchange money at their current exchange booth. The men there run a scam.
For me, the Russian tour operators in Suifenhe were the only ones helpful in getting across the Chinese border to Vladivostok. |

Thank you, for posting your experience. Such follow-up messages are very valuable, who else here would have recent information about this border town?
I admire the fortitude of those who set out to enter Russia from China or Mongolia (a lot of folks post questions about this) -- it can't be the easiest.
I've heard enough stories about huge delays entering Russia by road, that I would be inclined to stick to air to rail. |

Hi Leatherwood & Romdur - Most interested in what you have said. My wife and I plan to travel from Harbin by train to Heihe then take a ferry boat across the Amur River to Blagoveshchensk then by rail or bus to Belogorsk, then we are trying to find out if we can get a local train to Kabarovsk to Vladivostok. We are audacious travellers and don't mind the difficulties along the way.

Clive73 this is where I was 12 months ago.
Depending on the time of year it will boat bus or puma over the river.
There is a train direct from Blaga to both Khabarovsk and Vladivostok daily they stop at Belogorsk for an engine change and then continue on their way.
You will find from Harbin onwards the locals are not used to westerners although in China you will be mistaken for Russians.
