Hello everyone, I have a question... I went to Russia last February, and I'm going back again next week. My question is, when you guys go to Russia, do you bring US dollars and exchange for rubles or do you use an ATM?

I used my ATM last time, but I think I was charged a lot when I did so. What would you guys advise? Bring money and exchange or use my ATM again? Just wondering which is the best way to do it.

I know if I bring money, I need almost new dollars or they won't even take it.

ATM is better imho. Minimise charges by making fewer and larger transactions. Try and use Sberbank, they don't charge as much. If you have a credit card use that wherever possible, they're becoming more widely accepted now, and you will only be charged the fee by your bank.

In some banks the rate is so good it's sometimes better than the official rate (when buying rubles).
If you buy using your credit card, the charge is usually very low.
And yes, if your bank doesn't have ATMs where you are (check on their website), Sberbank probably has the lowest charge, and you can take 10k at a time (with others it's often 5k or 6k only).
