Ah, thank you and I'm not sure why when they sent me an e-mail why it sent computer goblebygook. I have Windows XP and they sent the e-mail through yahoo. Maybe I can send them an e-mail in Russian asking them what it is exactly that they sent me. I just hate to bother them any further, but it might be worth the shot. I see Russian characters on my computer just fine, but do I need to add another program like init6 has pointed out? Maybe it was a good thing that I sent it in both english and in Russian. |
You can send/receive mail with attached files.
I asked to one of my friend his Cyrillic address and it doesn't work on yahoo (or hotmail), I asked him to do the same with an attached word file and it was ok. |

No, I only suggested that you were trying to make me think of you as an ass. I never said that all Russians are Asses, if they were I would not learn the language.
E seems like a nice person and I’m a nice person so we do have that much in common and that is common enough for me. She can be as differnt from me as night to day and as long as she is a nice person I welcome her with open arms.
Yes, feel free to express yourself but if you come across as a complete ass don't expect people to respond to you in a kind manner. If you like to throw mud and baby slap people around for fun then you have some serious problems. I have to deal with kids all day and I don't want to have to come to a fantastic forum and deal with them too. I have to deal with parents that think they are high and mighty and I don't want to come to social situation where I am trying to learn only to have to deal with self-important attitudes.
I am actually a very tolerant person except when it comes to people trying to bitch slap me around for NO real reason. If I were doing something that warranted it then I would take my medicine and move on, but for someone to purposely come out and hit you below the belt for no other purpose then to try and piss you off? That might seem ok for you but for me all I have to do is walk away and not respond to anything they post or simply skip their post all together.
I’m all for freedom of expression but I am anti abuse. |

| I believe 'e' is a he. For most part most of the regulars on WTR are nice people. But now I think we've argued a few topics to death so naturally some squabbling is going to take place. |

I'm sure E will forgive you.
But I recommend using this for a translation engine - http://www.translate.ru/eng
It's pretty comprehensive, but I wouldn't try to translate an entire letter. It's inevitable that the grammar will get all screwed up, especially with six bleeding cases of nouns! Couple that with a difference in Russian of the words "first" and "the first" (which I find weird since there are no articles in Russian) and a full letter turns to crap quickly. I use it for individual words and short phrases.
There's obviously no substitute for actually knowing the language. |

OH thank you. What I usually do is find a translation for my letter, translate it then bring it to my class and I have the Ukraine gentleman in my class help me to fix it. I help him with his home work and we learn together. Right now I am working on my letter to the young sailor. I'm not really sure how to word my letter or what to say exactly since I'm not entirely sure that it is him. I assume it is him since I sent the picture and they sent me this particular profile. It doesn't say what ship he is currently on so I am kind of taking a chance and hoping they can send me in the right direction. I wish my Russian was better. Speaking it is one thing but reading it is an entirely different story. |

Talula,
I don't mean to be a pain but writing to some Russian sailor, and you're not even sure it's the same guy, who you barely met, and you rely on translators, well maybe either you a) hot to trot with a Russian, even a young sailor with no strings attached; b) have a wild side and c'est la vie attitude", ( translation needed pashalsta); c) are completely the opposite, aka a nice but rather naive young woman from Pacific Northwest who just "likes sailors"; d) are just plain smitten with the Russians! and e) you are not 32 years old but quite younger and adventerous!
This is not a a serious mind boggling post. But where do you stand? Feel free to improvise! |

OH I think you have gone beyond that at this point.
You must not be very good at making friends. What parts of friendship are you not clear on? Most of my friends are men. Yes I believe that women and men CAN be just friends with the male population. Many of my friends are beautiful people and that does not mean I am "trotting" around sleeping with them.
Besides, what the hell does it matter to you any how?
Even if I were looking to see him for some hot sex isn't that my right to do so? Since when do you have to be younger in order to be adventurous? You might be a stuffy old lady but I am young and I have a lot of spunk in me and I’m sorry if that makes you jealous in some strange way.
What I do with my life is my business and my freedom to do with as I see fit. You don't like what you read then skip it.
Spend some time digging that stick out of your ass and move on. Don't bother replying I’m done reading anything you have to say. Life is too short and I would rather spend my time talking to interesting and nice people. You are just not one of them. |

E is a he indeed. heh..... ....Honest mistake though. No worries. All is forgiven.
And Casey is right in that thing will get lost in translation through online translators.
But then thats why you're in WTR. If you post the bits of your letters that you find the hardest translating and ask nicely for them to be translated, someone here, most likely the mod Camrade or the other Russians here will be more than happy to help you translate it. |

Thank you, Thank you! I really need to learn how to read and write Russian and it is more exciting to learn with someone you have met in person. It doesn't hurt to get a little outside help in order to impress. I'm glad I found this site and I look forward to reading all your views on life and culture minus the few that have some mental malfunctions of misery towards others for what ever reason.
Maybe I will get to see all of you in person one day.
Cheers! |

A bit of the "pot calling the kettle black" situation here, I do believe, Cyndy.
But Talula is asking very valid questions about translation and learning Russian. Her reasons for doing so are her business, not ours, and if she wants to chase Russian sailors where's the harm in that? Don't sailors chase women? It's 2005, the tables are turned! |

I see something I want I try to get it and that is what makes me successful. He seemed interested by his actions I was just a bit too shy and speechless to make an attempt to communicate. It is funny how you lose all thoughts in a situation like that. If he wants to chase me I’m fine with that but I think it will be a fantastic compliment to chase him especially since it is so damn hard to find him. If something comes of it then GREAT, and if not well there are plenty beautiful men to go around in the world. It is all about having fun and I'm ALL about having fun. In the end, friendship is what is most important. I like to do things the hard way some times, it builds character.
The sailors are the reason I decided to take up Russian language. It was either Russian or German, but once I saw the Russian men I picked Russian language that day. I will still take German, I have wanted to go to Germany my whole life. I'm half German. I know French and a bit of Japanese. You have to make language fun or you won't want to learn it. I still don't care to speak French to this day. French don't really like Americans for the most part...at least not the ones I have tried to talk to. Japanese are very fun to have a conversation with, there are a lot of compliments that go back and forth and Karaoke is a universal language. Have a few drinks and sing away, it really brings people together. |
