The Money post is completely not true, I agree with Belochka, but to make it more specific, I can tell you about the people I know.

I think that a good family is a very imporant thing to Russians, both women and men. When they are looking for a partner, they want him/her to be faithful, caring, and attentive. I would say these are the most important qualities of the character (if we're talking about long-term relationship).
However, as it always happens, we try to see the qualities of the character we like in the actions of others, and here is where the differences start. For some men, "caring" means hot dinner every day at 6pm, for some women "caring" means her man saying "thank you" for this dinner (in this case, they won't have any problems). For other men, "caring" may be that the wife understands his long hours at work, and for other women, "caring" may be that their husband gives half of his salary to them...
What I'm trying to say, is that there are some generalities, but everything depends on the person in the end, so if you manage to have (or find) similar interpretations for each others' actions based on the same values, then it's going to work.

As for the appearance, this is really very hard to say, because, people in Russia are so different. I would say the main difference is that in Russia many women look more "artificial" than in the west. Their clothes is very neat and fancy, their hair are very well done, there's not a simple incident detail in how they look. So, I think if they do it at such a large scale, then many Russian men must like it (not me Smile

)...

It's true...
You know, if you ever go to Russia (or if you've already been), it's always amazing how many people you see in our subway kissing or cuddling each other. Always when you see a couple going on an escalator (maybe because it's a long ride) they will be kissing, hugging... same in the train: long ride, little space, people tend to get together... My friend told me she thought Moscow metro was a love palace...

You can't generalize the entire Russian race based on one bad experience! If I were robbed by a black guy, I can't exactly say all blacks are robber now can I?

Think twice before making such sweeping generalizations.

2 comments about the kissing in the subway, the experience of this girl and the the question itself:
1) I live in New York City and see a lot of people kissing and cuddling in the subway and on the street and I do that often with my fiancee myself - so I guess all large cities with the crowded streets and public transportation have this street romance

2) The experience of this girl is rather unusual for Russia. In fact, Russian men unlike western men are more used to giving the girl money, support her, buy her stuff, pay for her at dinner and never expect their money back. In America, it's common for a couple to split the check even if they have been dating for years. In Russia, the man is expected to pay for dinner and if he does not, the girl may think the guy is cheap or does not really want her. Maybe these things are changing now, but it's been the case generally. Even the Russian immigrants (girls) living in America for years tend to have this kind of approach towards money and dating.

3) I think Russian men are used to girls that are slim (not too many overweight people in Russia unlike the US, even though we are improving a bit..). They like the girls to be kind and caring. For a russian guy the over-the-top independent attitude of many American girls is a turn-off ("know-it-all, don't need anybody, open doors myself, pay myself, etc.).

Guys hate chicks with tons of money, or maybe not that they have tons of money, just the fancy "i'm rich, bitch!" attitude. On the other hand, I dislike chicks who beg for money or whine about how I didn't buy *insert name here* a diamond ring for *insert occasion here*.

And it's just not Russian guys who hate the American chicks attitude. *self point* I'm American and I hate that shit too. Well, it's not so bad after all, I met this girl and took her out last night, she wants to get a job and go work, while I told her I wanted to lie around the house and be a stay-at-home-husband. She was warm to the idea and so we're getting married in about 20 years. She also paid for dinner which was cool as hell and we're going bowling this saturday...
