I currently live in Russia (a Canadian on a work visa). My parents(also Canadian) are visiting Russia on a cruise trip in June (with a tourist visa). They want to extended their trip a few days to visit me in Reutov (Moscow Region). The tour company said to extend the visa they need a letter of invitation, but they weren't sure if I had to write the letter or if a hotel providing accomodation for the extra days needs to provide the support.
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Probably the simpler way to go is to get invitations from a hotel, or through a travel company (like those represented on this site). It is OK if they stay at an address other than that given by the company issuing the invitation. The cost is not very high.

An individual can also make an invitation, but not for a tourist visa -- this would be a private or home-stay visa. Reportedly, the process for the inviter takes a few weeks and small pile of paperwork. If you are considering this option, I suggest that you begin by finding out whether your residency status qualifies you to make such an invitation.
