Dear All,

a couple of months I posted the same question, with no replies:

Does anyone have information about the route Moscow - Warschau via Belarus? Looking at a map there is almost completely a 2x2 lane road from Moscow untill Brest.

1. Is this a good and safe road to travel?

2. How easy is it to get a Belarussian (Transit) visa, and where to apply (on the border)?

3. Any other websites / forums that have travel information about Belarus?

Thanking you in advance for your information!

Furthermore I got info about importing cigarattes at the Zilupe border crossing (Russia - Latvia): only 2 packages of cigarettes are allowed per person, instead of 200 cigarettes. The rest should be put in the litter.... or be imported, however there are no borderguards that know the official cigarette import procedure..... so they keep on suggesting to put the complete packages in the litter....

Visa regulations vary according to the nationality of the citizenship of the traveler, I don't know yours but I am assuming you're American?

If so, here is the link to visas for Belarus http://www.belarusembassy.org/consular/eng/visa_requirements.htm

A Belarus transit visa is valid for only a 48 hour stay will cost a minimum of $131. It also includes this requirement,
" ▪ For a transit visa:
A visa (or copy) for the country you are traveling from/to via Belarus. In case of traveling to countries with no entry visa requirements - copy of the ticket, itinerary from your travel agency or any other document confirming your trip to the appropriate country."

Good luck.

Thanx for the quick reply, btw I'm dutch, so I plan driving by own car.

so the transit visa is bit expensive I think.... and somewhere I read that it was no good reason to have just a russian visa in your passport....

In the case you are Dutch, there may be different visa requirements than for an American.

From http://www.eng.belarustourism.by/info/visa/
"There is no possibility to get a Belarusian entry visa on the border."
