I am planning a trip around SE Asia starting on 5th April and plan to go home via the siberian railway, stopping along the way and therefore need visas for russia, china and mongolia. I may not enter russia until July, and will be there for at least a week, so this will be just outside the 90 days max if i apply for the visa in England.

Is is possible to apply for a russian visa whilst i am traveling, as i've heard it can be difficult to acquire one from a country if you're not a resident, and which embassies will do it?

Also, could i (in theory) get the invitation in advance (ie while i'm still in the UK), more than 90 days prior to entering the country?

(i'm a UK citizen)

Hi,

Yes, you can get the invitation more than 90 days in advance and I would advise you to do that. You can only apply for a Russian visa in the country you're resident of (in other words where you can legally stay for longer than 90 days). If you can find any country in SE Asia where British citizens can stay longer than 90 days without a visa you can apply there.
