What is up with the new security code? I have never seen this on a forum. Why are we doing this every time we post something? Is it that bad on this forum with spam that we have to put in a code to post our answers? I agree it is difficult to get on this site and it is not convenient to post our replies...

What happened here?

For what it's worth, it is not so unusual for forums to require these codes (known in the business as captchas).

I'm much more troubled by the difficulty of logging in. Three times I tried to change the random-generated password that was emailed to me, my change of password seemed to be 'saved', and I still couldn't log in with my changed password.

If anyone had an urgent travel Russian question last week, they sure as hell didn't get help here.

Looking at the spam that I have seen on this forum, I don't think we need captchas. With the new login, it is almost impossible for a spammer to create a new account Smile But I decided months ago, that it would probably work to forbid the posting of web hotlinks until a user has made a fairly large number of posts. It is rare that a legitimate new person here needs to include a web link in a post.

I have had the same difficulty in changing my password, but overall I am getting on the forum. It feels to automative now, but I guess it will be something to get used too. I just don't care for the lay out too much.

hi guys, we'll figure out the password problem in a few days.

regarding the captchas – will switch them off after several posts. hotlinks will be forbidden unless a user has a lot of posts.

not that it really matters much anymore, but we all had lots of posts until the transition to the new system. now i have something like 8 posts. i tried to answer a question today with a few hotlinks included for reference, but they were not permitted.

man, the good old days sure were the good old days...!
