I'm planning a trip to Dubai via Moscow From NYC, with Aeroflot airlines, I can stay either 22hrs in Russia or 64Hrs connecting time, my question is
Do I need a transit visa for less than 24 hrs? Is there any restrictions for that? I would like to see St. Basils Cathedral, can i get out of the airport with no problem?

Or should I apply for a 72hrs transit visa in NY consulate?
I really dont want to stay much time in Russia, cuz my final destination is Dubai...

P.S. Im Mexican citizenship with american tourist visa(6month permit), should this be a problem to obtain transit visa?

Cheers...

tony,

You must have a visa, in order to leave the airport, even for a very short time! In some cases, a visa is necessary when changing planes, because there is no way to get between terminals without exiting the international area -- travelers can check with their airline about this.

I don't know US visas very well... with the visa you have, can you stay in the US for 91 days or more at one time, without leaving? If not (or if your are not sure), I recommend that you investigate whether Russian consulates in the US will accept your application. It is possible, that you would need to return to Mexico, in order to obtain a visa.
