Does any body know what happens if a Russian national with Canadian citizenship tries to enter with expired Russian passport.

I'm assuming that if you don't have a current Russian international passport you would not be allowed into Russia as a Russian.

Or you could go on your Canadian passport but you'd need a visa.

No country recognizes expired passports. Expired is expired.

I have never heard of any Russian citizen with dual nationality getting a visa to go to Russia. The rule is that you enter and leave on your Russian passport, dual nationality is not recognised there. Therefore your Russian passport must be current.

It's feasible that they may let you in but will not let you out without a valid zagran passport.

Scary eh? Get it renewed before you go.

Without either a valid Russian passport or a Canadian passport with visa, you won't even get on the plane to begin with. Airlines are very careful to screen passengers going to foreign countries to be sure all their documents are in order for entry to the destination country.
