JAYLAMII Just Starting Joined: 10 Mar 2011 Posts: 1	Posted: Thu Mar 10, 2011 7:57 am    Post subject: Russia Work Visa im having a problem with finding out correct information regarding the work visa ive read threads that are saying that a foreigner (US CITIZEN) can go abroad to study at a unviersity with a student visa (volgograd,moscow,etc.) but also can apply for a work visa in the american embassy in russia while abroad? is this possible with the invitation letter from the employer? "In order to get a work visa, you should find an employer first. After you found an employer, they should get a work permit for you and write you an invitation letter. After you have these documents, you can apply for a work visa in a Russian consulate."

Many countries, including Russia, have a general rule that foreigners may only apply for visas while OUTSIDE of the country. If you find a business in Russia that wants to hire you, and is willing to go to the time and expense to get a work permit for you, then you would have to leave Russia in order to apply for the work visa.
