Does anyone know how much it costs to use those baggage carts in the Sheremetyevo 2 airport? Do you have to pay in rubles, or can you use dollars? My wife is flying in on Tuesday by herself and will have two big bags that she can't carry alone. She will only have 40 rubles with her upon arrival.

Thank you,

Kirk

It is illegal to pay for anything in Russia using any currency other than rubles. Anyone who asks for dollars or accepts dollars is accepting a bribe. However, when you come out of passport control, there is a bureau de change right there where you can change money into rubles.

Are you sure that you can't replace her luggage with a big suitcase on rollerblade wheels and a smaller bag that straps on to it? It's a lot easier if you don't need to use baggage carts. If you put the heaviest stuff in the one with the wheels, and the light bulky stuff in the other one then it works great.

This is the type of suitcase I'm talking about http://www.stopoverstore.com/product/dsp_detail.cfm/usid/613030703/pid/633 and the detachable strap is the place where you attach another smaller bag or one of those business suit cases or (in my case) a carry-on backpack. So many companies are making this kind of suitcase that baggage carts are becoming an endangered species, just like pay telephones.
