Hi,
I'd like to go over to Russia in the summer and set myself up as an freelance translator/ interpreter however I'm not sure how to go about this. My problem is that I don't understand how it works with visas and work permits etc. I'll basically be my own boss. If anyone out there has the answer, I'll be very gratefull to hear from you.
Thanks
Malvina |

In the Visa section of the forum there is a ton of info on the different kind of Visas.....ie......travel, bussiness ect.
If none of your questions are answered by reading whats already posted, just ask Alice or Dimitri & they are usually pretty good @ getting back w/u LOL |

Get yourself a temporary residential visa, applications from OVIR, where you register your visa. Its a long tedious task , medicals, police check, application takes about six months. Unlike UK or USA you must be registered as a proprietor, sole trader, or what its called in Russia PBOYul.
But before you register you must have the temporary residential visa, there is no short cut , I have tried and I am now waiting for my residential visa. Also register for tax, tax payment is comparitevely good for the small self employed, if you choose correctly. One scheme is six % of your turnover, I believe you have to do your tax returns every three months, bit of a hassle, but there you go , cant have everything. |

| Some expats believe they are working legally in Russia with a business multi entry visa, some advisers have called it commercial, its the same meaning. You cannot legally work without a work permit from an employer, and you cant work self employed without a residential visa. If you want to register a company, perhaps a company off the shelf , yes a couple of weeks and your registered, but there a lot more expense and time involved to actually function, many types of business's need a liscense and insurance, and you must contact and register with immigration authorities (more expense and time) to get the permission to invite employees to work for the company, that includes you, the director, you are an employee of your company. and then you can issue work permits. |
