Instead of off with his head, maybe we could just pay someone to neuter him, or get him a sex change. That would sure give his future post a new direction.

I think it would be wrong for a forum like this to ban Winston. I have spent most of this weekend reading the posts on this site. Much of it was informative, some of it was interesting but there was also a lot of nonsense (at least to me) from many people. If you start banning them as well, I don't think it would be much of a forum. I think that Pavol and some of the others have posted great responses and I agree with them. You might also consider this: If you ban Winston, who do you ban next? Uday? Anathema mabye? Or maybe me? Sad Or, maybe you could screen and censor everyones posts (that was sarcasm btw). Sorry Uday and Anathema for putting you 2 on the spot. I used you as an example only because it seems that you guys would not take it the wrong way. You 2 bring a lot of well needed character to this forum, but so does Winston. Look at it as a balance issue. Would it be worth coming to this forum if everyone wrote the same thing? In 1950's Italy, it was extremely rare for women to have any sort of political influence and even more rare to have power. There was however one woman who had both. I think her name was Franco. She was a feminist and I think a prostitute. She was asked if she thought that prostitution degraded women and hindered the feminist movement. Her response was something like: Although it is true that some women are used and taken advantage by prostitution, it would be a step backwards for the Feminist movement if it were banned because the rights of all women would be stripped. Everyone has a choice to read and/or respond to his posts. Let's keep it that way, PLEASE. He can be like the kid in class that always gets in trouble but is basically harmless.

Wow that was a long-winded NO. lol

Another one
Winston did not obey by the rules of the forum and posted sex explicit, swearing, hateful and slanderous material, therefore Winston was banned. He was warned and did not obey by the rules and was banned.
Candide wrote(he is Winston support), almost all forums do not allow posting private emails into a public forum. Even worse he and Jack were slandering each other. Jack was doing via privite email and Winston was posting on the forum. Winston was also posting more graphic material about his sex life (yawn) and if notice this is more of travel forum and part of the agreement is sexual explicit material is not allowed. The last time he posted, he begging for money and trying to sell his videos. Which is also forbidden.

If you are interested in his stories, then email him and he will put you on his list.

Why is this even still an issue? Just let it go. It's a dead subject. Regardless of what or who he's doing in Russia, our lives go on. Just put this to an end.

Anyways, will it not be better to implement an 'ignore' button on this forum? This will allow any member to ignore any posters that they find offensive, etc, and will not be able to see such posts, and therefore not be tempted to read and reply to such posts.

Alternatively, or in combination, the moderator can tell W Wu, or any other poster, to limit their postings to the unmoderated topic. I would agree to an automatic ban if such posters insist on posting the same kind of 'undesirable' subject matter outside of the unmoderated topic, AFTER they have been told to only post in the unmoderated topic.

Incidentally, why not require that posters be registered members before they can post? If nothing else, this could be useful in marketing this website to its sponsors or advertisers.

This forum technically doesn't allow an Ignore button.

All the posters are being registered before they post.

You support you little buddy for a long time and whined about democracy how it was unfair and how loved to read stories about him getting it on with a whore was like Henry Miller. Then you whined about Kiwiguy posting supposely an outside email and you raised the flag on how wrong it was, but I replied that actually kiwiguy did not do it and WW actually did it then it was a non issue for you. Change the rules to fit the situation. If you want I can pull the quotes to show your errors, but why bother you will whine about that on how it is non democratic and more bullsh*t. You are a smart guy and well read, stop try to manipulate things. Basic fact, you support to keep WW and you also point out that people should not be able to post private emails from outside sources in this forum. Now you deny it, who are you, Bill Clinton.

I do not think that an ignore button would be a good solution. That is a long term solution to a temporary problem. It also sets a precedent that this forum can be lax in the words used for the ignore button will be considered an excuse. I would rather have the implicit civility that is already here. With an ignore button, people will be more likely to act in a deleterious manner. People should regulate themselves.

I disagree with banning Winston. Even though he has created numerous posts that are offensive, he does contribute to the forum with some of the details in his posts.
What more disturbs me about his posts, is that they seem to show up all over the site, regardless of the topic. Since most of the posts he creates seem to constitute of his personal adventures in Russia, i'd rather suggest to find a way to somehow concentrate them all in one area of the forum.
I'm not sure if phpBB allows blocking some parts of the forum for certain users, or that it would involve lots of difficult puzzles with creating groups (i am quite sure it is technically possible to restrict some people to a certain place in the forum though), but it should be possible to somehow give him 'a place of his own'.

Completely blocking him would be a shame though, as every community needs a certain variety of people to stay lively. Even a few (not too many:P) that are hated by a large group of users.
One tip for the real Winston-haters would be: ignore. The forum works in such a way that his threads will move down much faster if you don't reply at all. You will help to let them fade into oblivion.

Does anyone know if a 'killfile' program exists that will work on this website? You can use it to show/hide anyone's posts you don't want to see. Double click on the offending username and you'll never have to see another one of their posts, unless you want to (show/hide toggle).

i have no knowledge of these programs..

the problem in this case seems to me not the visibility/disturbance of someone's post to the regular users of the forum, but the disturbing influence they (might) have on the quality of the forum for new or occasional users who have serious questions on travel to russia/russian culture..
that requires an action by the moderators/administrators. not a suggestion for individual solutions

idea: add a "kill user" button, any posts by an account in this group would not be visible. of course, this would create a slightly jaggest discussion
thread. Thus if I killed B & E, and we had posts in this order:
A, B, C, A, B, D, E, F, G, C, D
it would show up as:
A, C, A, D, F, G, C, D
the more I killed, the less posts I would see, and the less offended I
am. Eventually you can kill everybody (annihilation) and your posts
will look like:

See! pure ecstacy - nothing there to offend you.
Thus, each person has there personalized view of the world, all sanitized,
only communicate with the ones you want. Once again, software comes to
the rescue to save the good people from the bad.
