Love? Lost? Information? Rancid stories of a hobbit's quest of Russian hookers?
I've found this place a great resource for my trip, but now that I've come and gone, it's got a spell over me and I'm hooked. I can't say I liked the food... the people weren't overly friendly... nor was the weather good. It's gotta be the vodka or girls... or maybe a combination of both. |

I thought I could find a Yugo. Afterall, girls love a guy who has a car.
I could get Smirnov at home so it's gotta be the girls... |

couldn't agree more. lost 8KG in the two months that i spent there in 2002 (my first trip). in subsequent trips as well, i lose 1KG for each week that i spend there. and i'm even on the lighter side of the weight scale - so the weight loss is not particularly good for me. vodka was great - i learned to take shots (rather than sips). and i was caught on the airport because i had too many bottles for my friends. the customs let me through with only 2 litres of it.
i love st. peters, didn't like moscow, loved all the small towns and villages that i'd been to. but now, i only go to one place. hopefully, sometime i'll be able to make it to siberia and far-east. i like the ruggedness there. western europe is absolutely beautiful, but it's a bit too nice for my taste. well, there's a nice article on - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A388172
that's what my dream is! |

Good question Uday. When i figure out a reasonable answer i'll let you know.
I'm just interested in things russian. Why this should be - i have no idea. I grew up on a farm in Australia, never met a native speaker of russian until i actually started learning the lingo, .. i guess its just one of those things - there is no good reason, it just is.
Also because its one place where i can compare notes with other people which have this interest. even now i get *lots* of bewildered expressions and im sure even my family thinks I'm quite strange on account of my interest in russian lingo.
Anyone else get this reaction from other people?
David. |

| Yeah I get this reaction from family, coworkers, other people I know- even my husband. In fact he has no interest in returning to Russia which we are doing this summer. He gets compensated in January with our winter vacation in sunny Aruba! People tend to think of Russia as cold, drab, not particularly hospitable, and mysterious. While ofcourse Russia has tourists, it's not exactly popular like Italy or France for example. But Russia has a richness, unique on its own and a most interesting culture. I feel this way about the other former soviet republics as well. I am so looking forward to going to St. Petersburg and Estonia this summer. Unlike our adoption trip over to Russia 6 years ago, this time we will be on our own and able to see what we want, do what we want, spend time meeting Russian people, etc. And we will be seeing friends as a friend of mine and his family in Ukraine will be meeting us in SPB and in Estonia we also have friends. It's impossible to say why people are drawn to certain things. I, like others on this forum have an appreciation for a very wonderful part of the world. I love learning and experiencing directly and indirectly more re Russia and its people. I wish more Russian members and former soviet republic members would be more involved in this forum. This is not a criticism, it's just that I really appreciate their input about things. |

Well, at first I came here to learn about travel info in preparation for my trip to Russia.
Now that I'm home, I love to come on here to chat with people who have a similar interest in Russia. I've always had a fascination with Russian culture, history, etc. (oh, and as you may have learned, I think Russian men are cute too )
Other than that, it's a GREAT procrastination tool when I have many papers to write (like right now!) |

| I originally came here to learn more about travel in Russia when I was planning my first trip. I enjoyed myself immensely and discovered that Russia was much nicer than I could have imagined. Now I hang around to encourage other people to visit Russia. |

To be totally honest, what started my obsession with Russia was a Russian man
How I found this site is another story alltogether- I was Googling "Russian jokes". |

At first it was the rancid stories of a hobbit's quest of Russian hookers but now I just stay to bask in the glory of Uday's wit now
Seriously though, I am using this site as a valuable resource of information. I have been to Russia before and learnt a few things about Russia and Russians first hand but I wished I had found this forum before I went on that trip. I plan on visiting Russia again and before I do I hope to absorb as much knowledge as I can. |
