I just found this russian band called reflektor.
If you guys want to try it out here's a site with a lot of their music: http://www.reflektor-music.de/rus/index.html
It has them performing other artist's music, and a few songs that they wrote.

Hi,

I'm looking for some Russian techno/lounge music. I don't know any names of the bands, so if you have any that would be great! Also, if you know of any websites I can find them.

Thanks!

Alice, what is the deal with Leningrad? Are they still the bad boys of Russian Pop?

Leningrad is popular in some circles, but IMHO you cant fully enjoy it if you dont know what they are singing about, they have very thoughtful songs...
i can upload them if you want.

I have almost all their stuff. The girlfriend at the time disliked their "colourful" language. Sasha is the Shane Mcgowen of Russia. I think he is half drunk when he sing most songs.
I loved their video my address is www. They were in the USA and I was so tempted to fly down to see them. Yanks were bitching about the price. Small Venue and 13 piece band with only 4 dates from Russia, of course it was oing to be price.
Glukoza has some great video also. Of Course Verka Serduichka "gop gop" video.
I agree with Dmitri that Ruki Vverk is not my fav. Who is awful musician with the Chow Chow Dog?

Question: Leningrad has any links where there lyrics are translate. Some of the words are translateable(I wonder why).

Whatever happened to Sector Gaza?

Does anyone know any other good Russia Ska bands and clubs?

Yeah, DDT is quite old band and quite good of course Smile I like some of their songs

Actually i don't like russian pop music (including Pugacheva and others) but there are some very good rock bands Smile

I recomend you Spleen - they are one of my favourute. Also new pop/rock band Umaturman attracted my attention... their music is not very "special" but their lyrics is quite interesting (if you understand russian Wink).
Also Bi-2 is quite remarkable group. I like some of their songs Smile
And the last band i'd like to stress is Multfilmy (Мультфильмы) - their last album is very good

And remember: all russian pop music is crap Smile that's my very humble opinion

Sorry Uday, Spleen was not rememberable, but just okay. Leningrad was good, but they were like the Russian version of the Pogues, really talented(if they remained sober), controversial, and drunk. Glukoza has an interesting sound which I like. I like watching Reflex and Via gra, but with the sound off. Very Happy
I like Alsou, for her daddy's bank account Very Happy .

modern Spleen is just "earning money" Smile
you should listen to their early albums with lots of folk... very good music
Leningrad is good to be listened if you drunk or extremely tired Smile
Glukoza absolutely can't sing
And you're right about Via Gra, Reflex and Alsou Smile

With some many good musician, The crap that is your TV is awful. I rather go to the street and listen to the buskers. The WORST is the "fashionable" guy with the chow chow dogs or that kallabok Ruki Vverk.
Of the Pop, I didn;t mind Discoteque Avariya, Verka Seduichka, and PPK.
But Ruki's new stuff, Yuck.
SEktor Gaza is also cool.

Here is a list which I have been able to comprise which has around 180 individuals and bands. I do not know which categories would they fall, rock, pop, classical, folk, etc.

Any help would be appreciated. In addition, any comments about how good or bad they are would also be appreciated.

I have them saved as a spreadsheat where I can enter the type of band/music they do, and quality, Excellent, good, average, bad, really bad.

Additions and corrections are welcomed. I will share it with whomever is interested.

I got the names by going though a site

http://russtv.com/show.php?op=section&topic=0&fn=name&sort=asc

which offers Russian TV shows for sale as VCR cassettes, Video-CDs [for Americans not familar with VCDS they are not the same as DVDs they are actually video recorded on a normal CD] MPEG-4 CD [Codex]

If you are after quality Russian music and don't really care about a specific style, your safe bet would be to get a CD soundtracks to the latest Russian films, such as "Bumer", "Nochnoy Dozor" ("Night Watch")...

Then we would need a "Russian Movies" topic. Smile

Care to start it? Question
