Hi All,

I didn't know where to post this question,so I posted it here and on the 'Travel' section as well.

I will be flying from Novosibirsk to Moscow (arriving Domodedovo) and then from Moscow to Copenhagen (leaving from Sheremetevo-1).

I have little idea as to how long it takes to get out of Domodedovo airport, then get to Sheremetevo (on the other side of the city), preferably by metro, and then proceed through customs at Sheremetevo-1.

Can anyone acquainted with the Moscow airport/metro system fill me in on these transfer times? Is it much quicker to take a taxi?

I will have 7 full hours between the first flight's landing (08:40) and the second flight's taking off (15:45).

Who thinks I will make it?

Thank you in advance for any information you could give me,

Thomas

Domodedovo is on the south and Sheremetievo on the north, it would take more than an hour to get from one to another.

If you use public transport:

There's a train every hour from Domodedovo airport to Paveletsky metro station (Moscow center). It takes about 40 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Domodedovskaya metro. It takes about 25 minutes. The metro to Paveletskaya takes another 25 minutes. So, all in all count about 1 hour to Paveletskaya. Total price: about 40-90R ($1.5 - $3)
From Paveletskaya you go straight up (so you don't need to change the line if you go by metro - it's green line) to Rechnoy Vokzal -- it's about 30 minutes.
You come out of the metro, cross the street, will see a few long queues (maybe 6-15 people) who wait for small minibuses (marshrutka to Sheremetyevo 2). You wait for this bus, wait your turn (this make take up to 30 mins), take marshrutka to Sheremtyevo 2 airport. If you need Shemetyevo 1, it's usually after Sheremetyevo 2 (another 5-10 minutes driver). It costs about 30 R ($1), the trip takes at least 30 minutes.

So, by public transport from Domodedovo to Sheremetyevo 2 it takes at least 2 hours, but for safety I'd count 2.5-3 hours. In case there's heavy traffic or you are not lucky to get to Domodedovo just after the train left, I'd say 4 hours. The total price is $4 US.

Keep in mind, that there are queues to get in Sheremetyevo 2, because of security check at the entrance (x-ray) introduced recently. Makes it more secure, but takes another 5-30 minutes to get in the airport. If you need it fast -- use the services of the baggage man (usually 100R = $3) if you give him a tip on top of that (another 100 R) he may try to get you through without the queue.

By taxi:
The trip from Domodedovo to Sheremetyevo 2 will take anything from 1 hour to 2 hours (really maximum), depending on the traffic. Average is 1 hour 20 minutes. Domodedovo is located about 10-15 km south from Moscow Ring road (MKAD). All cars drive up to MKAD, and go along it (about 70 km) counterclockwise to north-east Moscow, then drive outside of Moscow, about 10 km to Sheremetyevo airport. So, this is about 100 km (65 miles) distance. Most taxists offer it for about $50 - $70. You may lucky enough to find somebody for $40. Taxi companies' price starts at $55. Through our advertiser you can offer for $44 (English-speaking drivers): http://waytorussia.net/Services/Car/TransfersMoscow.html

Note also you need to get at least an hour before the flight usually to make it on time. And about an hour to pass customs and passport control in Domodedovo and get your luggage. So, add another 2 hours between the flights. and don't forget that the planes may be late.

Thanks so much for your help...

It really helped in making a decision. Today I bought my ticket and, hopefully I'll "yspet'"...

If I didn't come that way the cost would have been double, so...we'll see!
