I collect history books from different time periods and different nations. Can anyone recommend some GOOD Russian or FSU history books written by RUSSIANS or FSU?

I want a Russian view on the history of Russia/the USSR et al They can be a biography where a historical figure has written about there live/experiences.
Or it can be a straight up history book.

It doesn't matter as long as the author is Russian or FSU

One thing I see here in America is that we like to put our own "spin" on things and interpret things from a Western point of view.

Has anyone read Generation П?
I am curious on the content. It is supposely tell the difference between youth living in the capitalist times versus the socialist times. Because I find there is a HUGE difference from older Russians and young Russians. New Russians are much more image oriented and money concsious than the previous generation. Like the Generation X, it was stated that the youth are more the "lost generation". This book supposely compares Gen X to the Russian version of Gen X. No flaming, because this is from another person point of review two years ago and not necessarily mine.

I never read Generation П, but from what I heard I agree it desribes the Russian youth of the early 90s quite well. Now, Pelevin (the one who wrote G П) wrote another book: DPP -- dialectics of transitional period (I think in the end of 2003). And this is really about the late 90s and not as much about young people, but about everybody, their values, beliefs, goals... Quite an interesting read. I don't know if they translated it to English yet, so there's a reason to learn Russian

I often go to used books stores or stores which carry used books. Most of the books which are originally $20-$30 or more can be picked up for $2-$5.

Recently I found a store which had a number of books on Russia from someone who apparently had them in their collection. All but the last one came from the same store.

П means latin or greek letter "Pi"
