Hey folks,
I'm an american that is hooked on traveling. I will be in Europe this summer and i'm hoping to go to russia for a week or two. My main question is: Can i do it?? Or, more specifically...Can i get by without speaking russian? Is this a crazy idea? Should i abandon my idea of travelling alone and pay for some sort of tour? Will i be able to get around? Basically, i just need to hear from someone that has been to Moscow and St. Petersburg and has an idea of the difficulty that i will have. I'm interested in everything you have to say. Please be as brutally honest as possible. i need to have a clear picture of what i'm getting myself into Smile . Thanks very much for your help.

Dear Crazed Very Happy ,
The bare minumum is to be able to read cyrillic and at least be able to ask a simple question. For instance, buying a metro/train ticket could turn into a nightmare if you can't speak a solitary word.

My advice? Find someone who can speak a little and go with them or do a tour or learn yourself up really good, really quickly!!!.

However, you can always plunge in head first...

Up to you
