Vitali,

Sorry if 'dear child' came accross rude. That wasn't the intention; perhaps more one of emphasis on mentorship..!

I'm glad your enjoying the American Dream. Not to sound sarcastic, but I really do, and I hope you enjoy success for many years to come. My point is, admit to that from the outset. If you were saying 'i like the way these guys do things' then fine..in that sense it's understandable. But to revere the language on its own merits, is kind of like covering the stick with bacon before you throw it for your dog.
Simply not necessary.

Allow me to correct you, Proverbs 17:28 reads as follows:

"Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."

Your wish is my command..

Confused I really have a difficult time understanding the bitterness that some of the post on this site exhibit. I had hoped Alexeis had calmed himself after an earlier rant. Obviously this is not true. I am puzzled by Alexeis. He admits that his interest in the US is due, at least partially, to the fact that he experienced his father being treated like royalty by Americans. Why then is he so vitriolic toward the US now? Many people today dream of sharing the "american dream". I had hoped we could all be friends, but maybe not.
Laughing BTW education is not a cure for stupidity. History proves that even the most articulate men can be fools. I won't speak to Alexies again. DennisF

Dennis,

old Americans were good. very good, in fact. The government were as two-faced as any government, but the people were going about their business in the honest persuit of happiness. Without a shadow of doubt, this was a hallmark civilization. And I would never have taken that away from you.

On Sept.11 2001 however, Satan came crashing on your doorstep. And 'turn the other cheek' went flying out of the window.
You became this ill beast, most of the world could see it, but you wouldn't.
Even the good guys; the Christians, were right there behind Bush pushing for revenge.
It was sick. You could see it in your eyes. Young and old alike.

God strike me down if I am not telling the truth that I saw pure evil in your eyes..

BTW murder is not a cure for paranoia. History proves that even the most articulate nations
can be fools. After all, six billion people can't be wrong.
Its not the snake that bites you thats fatal; its chasing that sucker that drives the poison to the heart..

Come on hug the monitor for a group hug

Alex, there is no correct version of the English language even in England. I think you are definitely Orwellian Love Child, this is compliment.

You so bash the USA too much. They are good people.

Dr Pepper,

There is a set form of the modern English language regarding it's written and grammatical form. Now, you can argue until the cows come home, but that is the official case.

Content as accent has always beem subjective. Indeed it is impossible for two human beings to sound exactly alike.

My point is there is one true correct form of the modern English language, and you will find it in (surprise, surprise..)England.

ps
Look closer, I think you will find it is the USA who does the bashing..

Veronica(I wish) Zemanova

No there isn't it.

THere is correct form in England for them and correct form in the USA.
As languages evolve or devolve, they change. So if I speak like Canterbury tales, does that my language is more pure than yours. Nope. I bet you ee cumming drove you to drink!!! I understand your point, but slang is destroying the language and even the English are doing. American TV English Tellie are both wrong and incorrect. In Canada, Stocking cap is a toque. It is correct here, not there.

Both are English and you cannot say that since you have queen english that you better. Nope. Nice try though!!
Colour and Color are both correct.

Alexesis, You are the weakest link Good bye!!(joke)
Very Happy

BTW you know how to start a fight? Put a Englishman and American is the same room. The rest is nature!!
LOL
BTW Dennis, you should read up on Russian last names before you call someone a man or woman. Hello Mr Putinova LOL

Doctor Veronica,

There is.

It's called the English Language.

Canadians acknowledge the influence of French, therefore we don't on the whole regard them as speaking our language per se.
Our slang gets incorporated into new dictionary editions every year. And why not? Do you have any idea how many of the current English words(even some of the eloquent-sounding ones) were derived from slang??
But if you take a word or phrase and lose it's meaning, then unquestionably it loses its original potency, I just wish more Americans would acknowledge history prior to the 17th Century, that's all.
And yes, on the grand scale of things, language matters are purely trivial.

Most of us are rarely talking on the same level, anyway.

What's the situation with you, anyway? Are you really on lockdown? Where are you in Canada? Please don't say Vancouver..

Calgary, it is Canada's version of Texas. It is Canada's Redneck province. We do not have Yankees, but damn easterners and Commies from Vancouver, BC

But I am originally from Nova Scotia where it is more Scottish than Scotland.

English thing is different in USA, because they had pockets of immigrants everywhere that left different dialects. I love speaking with Americans, because there is much diversity and richness to their language. In my job, I had to phone all throughout the USA and I loved it. It is funny that I might be in St Petersburg Russia in March and St Petersburg USA in April.

Two things bother about USA, one the legal system is killing a great country by creating new laws and lawsuits that make doing buisness difficult and corrupt.
SEcond, the paranoia that the media and government uses to sell itself. You feel if you smile at kid that you are going to get maced and beaten. If there is one in billion chance that you will get upset stomach from a particular candy, then have to put a big law to advertise this and media will state that you will die from it and politicians will make a campaign promise to rid it. I like the old USA when I visited as a kid. You know when a child would trick or treat at Halloween and parents will/will not escort them. The worst that would happen you get your bag stolen with your candy. Kids would play sports instead living on a Xbox. People would work hard to make money, instead waiting to someguy who works to make a mistake so they can sue him for the money.

LOL!

Calgary, heh? I knew some guys from Edmonton; house prices exceptionally good round there, if i remember correctly.
I was over in Vancouver(round about the Burnaby crossing/metro line in fact.) for the first six months of 2003; absolutely LOVED it over there!! Very nearly settled for good at one stage.

The only thing I would say is that you put far too many preservatives in your Jack Jinks Jerky. It's the first luminous piece of meat I've ever come across..!

I fully agree with your take on the USA. Their paranoia has developed into an illness. But there are some encouraging signs from certain corners of the USA which could yet show the way.

Idea Idea Idea

Dr Fox,

Yeah! I remember every one going around saying 'eh at the end of every sentance. It was quite confusing at first, but said SO much you soon get used to it. My other favourites were 'oot' and 'aboot' and 'hey buddy/dude!!'!

LOL @ Hongcouver-they are loads and there was also whole communities of South Americans, Middle Easterns and hundreds of thousands of Punjabi Indians. And how many Russians?? I couldn't believe it when I first when to MetroTown and saw a million carbon-copies of myself!(Only much less better looking, of course.) Loads of Romanians, Moldovans, Ukrainians everywhere..

Even though it was only last year, it seems like a dream now..

What a wicked country!!
