My wife and I will be in Prague from May 13 to June 12.. Then we plan to go on to Saint Petersburg. We are still waiting for our invitation, which is due in a week or two. Sooo, there is no possibility of getting the visa from Washington before we leave. We would like to get our visas in Prague. Most places say that you can get a visa in any embassy, but the Czech embassy's official webpage seems to say that in Prague nationals of a third country cannot get a visa unless they have proof of employment or residency papers (vid na zhitel'stvo), but must apply to the consulate in their nation. Does anyone know if this is the case? Is it the case only for the visa section of the Prague embassy, and not for the Czech consulates in Brno and/or Karlovy Vary? If none of these were available, can one get a visa in a day or two ( at some cost, of course) from the consulate in Krakow, or Vienna, or Budapest?
Thanks in advance for any responses |

I don't know about Prague, I know that the consulate in Berlin has the same rules. Maybe in other countries it's not so strict. The best is to contact the consulate directly by phone and ask them (don't forget to write down the name of the person who gives you the information, so they don't change their mind after
Check out http://waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/RussianConsulates.html
for contacts of the Rusisan consulates

I was amazed to read your post. I am an American, I am in Plzen and I am thinking about St Petersburg in the next week or two. I see these ads for visa to Russia in 24 hours, so I am checking it out.
If I find out anything good I will respond to you again, please do the same if you are successful. |

Unfortunately, most Russian consulates will not accept visa applications from nationals of third countries, without documentation that the applicant has permission to stay in the country where they are applying for at least 91 days.
There are some countries where exceptions are made to this rule, but they seem to be very few. And often, it is difficult to find out whether a consulate will allow short-term third country nationals to apply.
I wish you all good luck. Whether you get good news, or disappointment, please tell us what you learned ... this will help other travelers! |

The original question in this thread was posted and replied to seven years ago!
Things have changed somewhat in the intervening period, current information is available in the visa forum and elsewhere on the site.
Please look there. |
