Hello all. I will be traveling to Moscow in 6 days! I cant wait. But i have 2 questions for you all.
Question 1: Is there a Fee to exchange my US dollars to Russian Rubles? Here is Philadelphia it would cost me 17.50 to exchange 500$. So therefore it would be 517.50 USD to get $500 in Russian Rubles. So is there a fee there?
Question 2: Do i have to keep my passport on me at all times? Or can i make a photocopy of my Passport and Visa papers?? I already got a answer from one guest but i wanna see others answers.
Please Write back soon because i will be leaving sooooon!!!
Thank you all! |

They take a %. If you notice on the opening page, there is buy amount for USD and sell amount for USD. They will buy 23.50 robules per USD and sell at 24.25. Understand?
Also make sure you have new bills and do not take damaged bills. They will be useless to you. |

There is sort of a fee, they buy for one price and sell for another. That essentially allows them to buy for less and sell for more. I have found that the currency exchange at the airport is just as good as anywhere else. The last time I was there the actual exchange rate inside of Russia was higher than it was reported outside of the country.
Question 2: Do i have to keep my passport on me at all times? Or can i make a photocopy of my Passport and Visa papers?? I already got a answer from one guest but i wanna see others answers.
I would carry everything with you at all times. I don't know if they will accept a copy. Russians use their passport like a driver's license in the US, it is their main source of ID. Having a copy would be the same as showing a copy of your license to a cop in the US. I don't think it will go over real well.
Where will you be? I am going from Philly on the 30th. |

Hmm okay so i will carry my passport on me at all times and i know that the ratis is 27.90 rubles - $1 USD. My girlfriend told me that my ATM card would be useless there since i belong to a Commerce Bank and there is no such in Moscow. Also i will be leaving Philly Intl Airport on Dec 28th and i will go to Detriot first and then Amsterdam (Woohoo!!) And arrive in Moscow on the 29th. Ill be staying in SW Moscow. It should be a very interesting 3 weeks. My G/F also said that they will exchange my money at no fee because when she came home from the U.S in September they exchanged her money properly. Thanks for help any more post will help.
Thank you all! Have a good holiday to everyone! |

What do you mean no fee?... Fee is always included in current rate, thats how exchangers earn money. |

I didnt know that the 27.90 included a fee. I just assumed that 1 USD equaled to 27-28 rubles. But i will be bringing $600 with me. I dont have to pay for a place to stay and i only have to buy food when i go out. Do you think $600 will last me 3 weeks? I talked to one guy who travels to germany alot and he said i will make it 4 days and then i will be begging for money. But this guy is a alcoholic loser so i am not going to believe him. What do u think Alice? Also you are very pretty as i can see in the Icon. |

Depends how you spend them, where you go, etc...
Of course they will last 3 weeks, if you spend them properly...
when you go to a cafe or a middle-class restaurant you spend $20-50, going to a night club would cost 100-300 rubles for entry, and 100-200 rubles for a drink.. metro and bus tickets cost 10 rubles, taxi would be about 500 rubles to drive from north of Moscow to the south(inside of MKAD), but seeing that you are a foreigner drivers would ask much more.. yes i think $600 would be enough, if you dont have to pay for your place... Some girls though expect foreigners to be super generous, so keep that in mind too
About that guy, you know, you can spend $600 or even more in one evening if you visit elite places... everything depends on where you go. |
