I originally came on the Way To Russia web site, and message forum because it was very helpful to learn more about Russia, and I thought that mabye I could possibly help someone else who might need some knowledge that I had aquired about Russia, the Russian culture, and general travel information. The latest post in the unmoderated forum by Penderghast futher confirmed what I had been noticing about this site. Penderghast has turned it into his personal hate forum, as it seems others have done also. I have been a part of it also, and am no better than what I have critisized in my past postings. I am tired of the hate, tired of the foul language that is uncontrolled, tired of personal, national, and religious bashing/flaming. Almost any ligitimate question a new member has is met with criticism, and unhelpful comments. I am sure the originators of this site didn't intend for this to happen.
I apologize for any personal attacks, rude comments, or for any unhelpful words that I may have said in the past to the members, or guest in this forum. I now choose to stop posting, and participating in this forum, and will delete it from my PC as one of my favorite places. To the people I have made friends with, feel free to email me. I sure hope things change in this site so I can come back later. Best wishes to everyone,,,,,,,,,goodbye

I agree with Randy and I personally dislike this unmoderated forum idea and this is complete crap. I am also getting tired of this name calling and bashing crap. Being called a f*cking c*nt is bad whether moderated or unmoderated. This unmoderated forum was a REAL BAD idea. Maybe it is me, but I rather enjoy some civil discussion.

Good Luck to you Randy. I will email you my friend. You are a class act.

Do not be so sensitive. I've got fired at with the worst possible insults toward me from certain people here yet I am not giving up. If the only thing we can discuss here are the Russian culture and people we'll get done with it in a day. You gotta let people talk about what they want sometimes. So... do not say goodbye, come back my friend.

vitalsigns, you are part of it. Also, where are the discussions with the Russians? That's what I requested because I didn't want the threads to turn into stupid American political rants back and forth. The intelligent discussion vanished. Vitalsigns, you cannot debate intelligently or rationally. I am sorry if you consider that an insult but it is true. The few others who have a Russian city under their name particpating in the insults didn't offer much of an opinion that contributed to the thread.

Therefore, I am no longer participating in the political discussions that I tried to encourage Russians to join. I want to apologize to Randy and Fauste. I know I am not responsible but I can't help but feel that my comments and requests to engage in the debate brought about the psychotic postings that resulted. I have already mentioned I hate discussing politics because of this result. I was merely interested in the Russians' point of view of which there were not enough Russians responding to obtain any kind of sample anyway.

I spoke about this with Alice before: we need to set very clear rules for the forum and specific rules for each folder.

The only thing that seems to be clear now is that there are no rules for the Unmoderated Forum.

I think now he forum needs a lot of cleaning up, which means very strict moderating and monintoring by the mods. The problems were not nipped at the bud, and I'm afraid that we need to purge a lot of posts and possible some posters.

Ok - I apologize too for saying intentionally inciteful things in reaction to the proselytizers... I try to stay away from personal attacks but you're right about Penderghast... a bit of a loser, that one.

I can't believe you're saying this Mogsfan! Had I come here with a foul mouth, cursing America and Bush you, my friend, would've been the first one to gloat along with me.

vitalsigns, the ones that did, I didn't reply to nor did I "gloat with them." I was referring to your extremely religious views and lack of any objectivity. But, the worst part was you refused to consider my point or read my sources. How can one have a discussion or debate if you are so engulfed in your "religion?" It won't go anywhere. YOU replied to the others and traded insults or hostilities back and forth, not me. I ignore comments I find accomplishes nothing even if I agree, in general, with a point they bring up. Don't get so offended; I didn't blame everything on you. Dr. Fauste is annoyed and frustrated, I think (I can't speak for him) so he posts those sarcastic and cynical cartoons. I don't know how you could find them offensive. It's political satire. I don't mind if you post your "world view" at all. But, it didn't help the way you and the rest argued. What I found with your view is your refusal to be open to other people's perspectives. I am "leaving it." Don't take it the wrong way; I just don't think the discussion will go anywhere but towards the exchange of hostile insults. Besides, I was particularly interested in the input from more Russians but alas, they seem few in number or disinterested in taking part.

No, you don't. You need common sense. If you don't like the posts or the posters, DO NOT REPLY OR RESPOND. Simple, eh?

The Cartoons are meant to create humour or a laugh when people are tearing each a part. We have a group of very intelligent people here, but restraint is necessary to stop the cracks at each other's skulls. Penderghast comments have costs us a good man and poster, Randy and I do not know how many others have stopped or quit. So to keep the rights of a couple vulgar people, we have driven others away. There is a difference between freedom of speech and the survival of the vulgarist. We have the latter. This is my last comment on this situation, I will refrain from commenting on politics anymore. I am going to use the forum as help to go Russia in March. That will be it.

Hello again,

I joined this forum seeking help and advise and recieved it. I have had a few pissing matches with fellow posters in the past, but I must say that for the past month that I have stood quietly in the shadows watching what has been going on here and I have observed quite a bunch of bullshit. It seems that we have have reduced a helpful and useful site to a big bunch of arguements, name calling, nation bashing, and religious arguements. This behavior has chased away quite a few posters that all made good contributions and had something useful to say. Why can't we all bring it back to what if was meant for? Nobody should have to leave or choose to be silent because we can't put a little thought to what we write down before we click on the submit button. I enjoy this place but we don't need the crap that usually follows after posting a topic or reply. Let's stay on track with the posted topics and remember that if we don't like a subject we don't have to read it or comment on it. Everybody is entitled to his or her opinions and we should all respect that (myself included), opinions should not be an excuse for hate, foul language, bashing and flaming. We should all try to bring this site back to what it was meant for.
Everybody have a good day or night and play nice.
Thank you for your time.

Frick,
I am sure that I am not the only one that appreciates your words of wisdom.. Maybe living around Yosemite gives you an advantage. I spent some time there i March of 1982 or 83. It is a beautiful place. I can understand why Ansel Adams, one of the greatest photograghers captured this place.

T o Ansel Adams and everyone who appreciates peace, beauty and love,

But you can't just block people just because they said something that seems inappropriate to you. Nobody will eventually care to come to the forum, because of the fear of being banned. Unmoderated forum should be kept for anyone who wants to come and speak up his/her mind.

vitalsigns, see, you can make some sense. Smile I agree with you.

With all due respect to Fauste and Randy, I don't buy the 'chased potential posters away' theory. Alice had the right idea by using a sort of disclaimer. It was stated that this thread may not be very clean and that it's 'unmoderated.' Hmmm... I think most people can guess what that entails. It's ONE section. If you leave because of one thread or section, then you were going to leave anyway - you just want to sound dramatic and critical. No one forces others to read it. I'm against censorship and for common sense. It would be nicer if the crazy sounding posters communicated via email instead but I do find some merit to those who support the idea of the thread - to say whatever you want and how you want to express it. The main thing is that if it trickles down into any of the other threads, it is more than justified to move those posts to the 'unmoderated' part.
