I don't know if this is important to anyone else, but the Superbowl is a week away and I kinda want to watch it. Does anyone know where people could watch the game in St Pete??? I looking forward to the Pats taking home more hardwear and seeing if T.O. actually tries to play on a broken ankle.

I'd only watch this Super Bowl if it were possible that nobody won, as there are no other teams that are more unlikeable that these two. I could care less about Owens, unless his foot gets torn off and then lodged in his mouth somehow. Also, should the Patriots take home more hardware, it would only be an excuse for the rich college brats (who also double as shit-for-brains morons) to get drunk and attack police, set fire to cars, etc. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question, but with such a poor matchup, I envy the fact that you are currently in a city where the game is inaccessible.

I don't know if you are from europe, but it sounds like you are. In any case football does not ,in any way, compare to the violence to the police & property that soccer poses.

Football is f'n great. stop attacking the intelligence of people that like football, I can think circles 'round you. & as far as rich college brats.......well......you got me.

Most nations are content with competing for the World CUP. Why do Americans need to have their own cup,.. well more than a cup, ...a bowl actually, ,,no a SUPER bowl. Why are Americans so insecure?

Also, what is so interesting about a game where fully armoured men spend most of the game standing around discussing what they are going to do next? <yawn>

While you are correct in suggesting that I am from Europe (born and raised in Nizhniy Novgorod), I am currently residing in the U.S. I am a big fan of both football (American) and soccer (European football). Had you read my post correctly, you'd see that I am not criticising football, just the two particular teams in the Super Bowl (based on that fact alone, you could probably guess which team I am a fan of Very Happy ). As far as the violence following any type of sports win in Boston, it's well-documented. "Shit-for-brains" referred to the local college kids who engage in violent behavior for no reason whatsoever, not football fans in general. As far as you being able to "think circles around me", I highly doubt it Twisted Evil Either way, I stand by my previous statements.

We're having a super bowl party! a) we live in Massachusetts home of the Patriots; b) my husband loves sports; c) it's middle of winter and good excuse for a party.

I used to think football was stupid and while I am not a big fan of the game, I understand why men especially are drawn to it. Its a testerone thing. Very Happy

I wouldn't exactly call myself a HUGE football fan but it's kind of tradition to watch the Super Bowl...I'm a fan of sports in general. It brings people together more than anything else. I wouldn't exactly classify myself or any of my friends as rich college brats (doubling as shit-for-brains morons) who want to get drunk and attack people. I went to college in the Boston area and enjoyed watching the Pats and Red Sox win championships. For the most part I don't actually care who wins the Super Bowl, I just enjoy watching the game with a group of people (my friends). Plus the commercials between the game aren't too shabby (new ad campaigns are launched during this time).

Also, why exactly are Americans insecure...because the Super Bowl exists? To my understanding Russians have a hockey league called the Super League, which I think is pretentious because the level of play in that league is NOT super in comparison to the NHL. The NHL lockout has made it super but once the NHL and NHLPA come to an agreement it won’t be super anymore. I'm not trying to be rude but calling Americans insecure doesn't make a lot of sense to me; I don't think Russians are insecure...the Super League is a very respectable league to play in.

What's wrong with calling stuff super?...where does insecureness come in?....Maybe if you lived in the US you would like it.
I don't like football either...but why insult a countries' sport....football(not soccer) is America's sport..just like cricket is Indian..and hockey is Canadian/Russian (Americans may not agree...but you are wrong Razz)

Didnt the Red Sox just win the World Series for the first time in like 80 years or something?.... So that would make you at least 100 years old.... impressive Laughing Anyway, it's just a comment... my 17th hour at work, so forgive me....

Didn't I read that following a baseball game last autumn the Boston police shot a girl to death using "non-lethal" guns. I wonder who has the shit for brains.

Funniest thing is how they call the winners of these domestic competitions World Champions. The arrogance to proclaim such things about the ice hockey, gridiron, basketball and baseball teams that play in the US and US/Canada domestic league shows how the average yank recognizes jack sh!t outside the US. Considering gridiron is probably the only sport the US national team can claim world championshipship status in because nobody outside of Canada and the CFL plays the damn sport is laughable. They aint the world champs of baseball, ice hockey and basketball which are played by quite a few nations.

It is hilarious isnt it. They take 4 hours to play 1 hour and most of that hour is spent time wasting and running down the clock. And what is with offense and defence. Are the players that untalented they cannot do both. I think these yanks need to see how a real contact sport is played and watch a game of rugby or rugby league which is played by real men who dont need pads and helmets.

I would agree that it's not exactly nice for North American athletes to call themselves world champions BUT I have a question for you. If you played basketball, baseball or even hockey where would you want to play??? The leagues may be housed in the US but the athletes are most definitely NOT all North American so I can see the justification for some teams to call themselves world champions...where else is football (American) played? There is an international league but that's similar to a minor league.

The MLB has players from Cuba and Japan, the NBA from Serbia and Korea, the NHL from Sweden and Germany...the list is pretty much endless. These athletes left their home counties to play in these leagues and play hard to win these so called “domestic competitions.” There are a number of countries represented in these leagues and that is why I think these athletes play on a higher playing field. Also, if you are looking at Americans' performance on the international stage Americans have a history of doing well at track & field, ice skating, basketball, figure skating, swimming, tennis and the list goes on and on.

Kiwiguy_os – Lacrosse…I think Americans are the only people to play.

Why do some posters feel the need to bash Americans? Now it is football, baseball etc. It is always something. Australian guy you need to lighten up. I was glad that we have at least one savvy poster on this thread who recognizes that in USA major sports go after the best players all over the world. OK it's money, HELLO. Sure, it may be somewhat arrogant for US sports to characterize certain competitions as world championships. But I think anyone who feels offended is probably just one other soul who has succombed to PC (political correctness). Have you not noticed that PC is rampantly catching on? Speaking of PC- IS THIS AN AMERICAN TERM AND EXPORT? I don't know but it really is bull shit.
