I think ultimately a child is still going to grow up to his/her individual self, and nobody, even a parent, will have control over that.

I think coporal punishment had left a violent streak in me. I've whacked two guys (left one with a bloody nose) over a small argument. They were more surprised than hurt but are still my friends. Smile It takes effort not to strike out at someone. Half the time I'm probably subconciously thinking, "I was hit because of so-and-so, why can't I do the same?"

Do you think your parents understand how youy feel now?

Maybe, but frankly it doesn't matter much to me anymore because I live a very much adult life now.

I always thought corporal punishment was inhumane, debasing and humiliating but some of the children I babysitted for seriously made me reconsider.

Thre was little Sarah, who was like a living argument for bringing back the horsewhip.I'll never forget this. She was five, I was fourteen and once when we were outside and she wanted something and couldn't get it, she stood in the middle of the road, crossed her arms and give me the "what are you going to do about it?" smirk while I stood screaming "No,Sarah don't!Come back here, young lady! Please...please come back here!?Honey?! ".

So what could I do but agree to piggy-backthe little brat, buy her ice cream and take her to the store? Evil or Very Mad All the while thinking "10,9,8, you can't smack other people's kids, you can't touch other people's kids... "
