all drugs in Russia are illegal but those who want to get it, can get it... if you are caught with drugs police will certainly arrest you if you sell it or make it, you'll be inprisoned for at least 5 years
Legal drinking age is 18 y.o., and this age is also a driving age and smoking age. But in real life you can get drink even if you're 15, but it depends on a seller. Most sellers don't sell vodka for example to juniors, the same situation with cigarettes
To talk about sex - you're allowed to have it since you're born
If you don't want to talk with the police try to not walk completely drunk on the street , try to not break for example glass cases of the shops Smile Also you should always have a passport with visa with you. Then you should be careful: don't walk in the night in unknown areas or districts, try to be polite with people and people will be polite with you Smile you're foreigner, i suppose noone will offend you.
Then don't leave things if you don't want them to be stolen, watch your pockets in overcrowded areas, don't buy drugs alone and without russian friends

PS: don't buy any drugs, care about your health Wink

You forgot to mention that beer is a soft drink so anyone can buy it anytime at one of the 24 hour kiosks and then drink it right there on the street or on a bus or wherever...

some do though. they wanna make money so they don't care about what can happen to the teen. this is sad and that's what i don't like. in america you can get in a whole lot of trouble if you sell alcohol to kids under the age.

are you kidding me??? Shocked i have lived in russia for my whole life and never heard of that. i don't think it's right though. kids can get drunk now whenever they want. that's pathetic! actually nothing ever prevented us from bying beer anyway, but some of the sellers still didn't sell it to juniors; now when there is a law, it is gonna be totally different: kids will get drunk more often. Sad

I do remember witnessing teens gathering at any time of the day in Omsks central parks with full bottles of beers, trying to kill time. Sad decadency show, but certainly the result of a fairly high unemployment rate.

18 is drinking, driving, smoking, voting, being an adult age.
16 is when you are allowed to have sex
14 is when you become responsible for all your actions, and get a passport.
All drugs are illegal.

Camrade is right about alcohol situation, its very easy to buy anything even if you are under 18

All drugs are illegal, but the laws have recently changed on how much one can possess and still have it count as a misdemeanor. It used to be draconian, that even the tiniest bit of marijuana could get you three to five at butyrka, but they've eased that up considerably, so I hear.

Everything stated above is true. I only have small things to add:
You are allowed to DRINK on the streets but it is illigal to be DRUNK (nahoditsa v netrezvom sostoyanii).
You are NOT allowed to drink anything alchaholic in the metro in either Moscow or St.Petersburg (just yesterday I saw two guys drinking coctails on Teatral'naya when a cop came over to them and nicely asked them to stop, these idiots start arguing and then start saying that its legal, the cop sighs, pulls out a booklet with the Metro regulations in it, shows them and they continue to argue...IDIOTS! Well, thats when my train came so I didn't witness the end)
Also, you are not allowed to smoke in the Metro, buses or ANY vehicle other than trains (commuter or inter-city), there you can ONLY smoke in the 'tamboor' - that little place on either sides of the car where the exits are located and the door must be closed into the seating area.
I think in the fall they will introduce the law (that has been passed by the Duma) that all alchoholic beverages (including beer) will be banned in public places (on the street and stuff)

Speaking of drinking in public...yeah, thats bad, but when I was in Canada this summer, it was late evening and the people I was with decided to 'get high' (they were Canadians, the people I was staying with) and they walked up to a postal box and started rolling joints!!! I could not believe it! Then several guys that were walking by walked up and asked if we could spare some!! I was shocked! This was in by an outdoor mall outside a supermarket that just closed...it was like 22:00. The hilarious thing is that the guy that asked us (one of them) walked up to two people that were passing by, asked them (I didnt hear, he was far away at that point) and they got something out, handed it to him and he said 'thanks' Now since I didn't know what they handed him I won't jump to conclusions...but using common sense I can guess what that was Rolling Eyes . This was one of my memories of Canada...pretty funny though!
Very Happy
Vic
P.S. I am an athlete (Master of sports in swimming, plan to make 'MS mezhdunarodnogo klassa (dont know how to translate this one) this year) so I don't smoke and I do not drink.
