I see that Russian Women have their own topic on WTR. But what about Russian men? I for one am curious to hear more about Russian men. I have met some in Russia and in US where I live, and most who I have met especially those under 40 yrs. old, are very nice.
Question- Why does it seem so many Russian women want to marry foreighnors ie. Americans, but what about Russian men? Do they not have similar desires??? Come on now DON'T BE SHY BOYS. Do tell.... |

I'm falling off my chair right now Dr. Fauste. Is that really the great Dmitri? But I'm curious like Cyndy to find out about Russian men. They all can’t be alcoholic and aggressive creatures. Why do people spend so much time on talking about Russian women? It must be because of the Russian Mail Order Bride thing….. |

Wow... handsome yes uh handsome. (Feels nervous! I’m the new guy don’t shoot me!) To each his own, eh. I should shut up because I don’t want Dmitri to get mad and ban me. My hair is short and in that ever so popular spiked manor, and yes I dye my hair. And also I added a picture to my signature, how do you like it? The picture is of Shakira in Jimi Hendrix t-shirt, used to be my desktop before the T.A.T.U./ Ivan Shapavalov one, dont ask. |

It's a well known secret that Russian women want to marry foriegnrs in the hopes that they'll come to America, and meet me...Ask any Russian woman. |

| I have yet to hear from any Russian men on this subject. I have to think there are some Russian men who have interest in meeting foreign women. The grass is always greener and all that... |

Well, I've known several Western women who've married Russian guys. It most certainly happens.
It's obviously not as spoken about or frequent as Russian women marrying foreigners for a couple of reasons, I think:
1. There are FAR fewer female Western expatriates here. Even 15-20 years ago and when I was studying it in school, there were always more guys studying Russian than women. I don't know why. Maybe the sound of Russian wasn't romantic enough or attractive to the female ear. Who knows.
2. I've never encountered a male order husband service and online 'groom' agencies. The marriage agencies here, and there are a lot, perpetuate a certain myth about how great it is to have a Russian wife. There's nothing doing the same for Russian men.
3. There are cultural stereotypes (portions of which might be based on some degree of truth sometimes) about problems frequently associated with Russian men, such as chronic alcoholism, chauvinism, abuse, poor-earning potential, etc, etc. I'm not saying that's true or applicable to all Russian men, but many of those problems do exist here in Russia and the image exists, and it obviously doesn't do anything to further Russian men as potential 'Mr Rights'.
4. Every Russian university foreign language department I've ever encountered (and having worked on an academic exchange program here way back when, I encountered A LOT) is predominantly female. There are far fewer male language majors than women.
Just my thoughts. Feel free to disagree, discuss, comment, etc.
