|

I was reading this article on MosNews: http://mosnews.com/feature/2005/03/18/dogs.shtml
Is it really true that dogs are becoming that big of a problem in Moscow? They are suppose to be mans best friend. Does Moscow have any leash laws or waste pick up laws? I used to be a dog walker last summer and In Pennsylvania there are many leash laws. I would like to know more about this doggy issue, can someone help me out here? |

| Stray dogs is a big problem in every russian city. But I personally love dogs and don't see the reason to hate them (unless some big and mean dog bit your leg off when you were a kid:) ) We have a lot of stray dogs in our yard in Russia and everybody loves them. We give them food all the time. They even have a special warm place to sleep. |

| My wife and I thought it very sad to see so many stray dogs in Moscow. They seemed to be everywhere we went. Understreet walkways, Metro stations, near food kiosks. Just all over the place. We usually stopped to pet them because we missed our own dog since we were in Moscow 3 weeks. They seemed to be a bit wary of getting touched as if they'd been kicked by people in the past. None of them appeared to be starving so they must be getting handouts here and there. |

| Poor things, they don’t trust humans that well anymore because they gave them away. My family and I went to look at buying a dog tonight. They all were like $1,500 USD. Dogs are getting really expensive. But we are most certainly getting a cat! |

| I have tons of stray dogs and gypsies in my neighborhood. You think that would be a problem that would solve itself - that wild dogs would rip apart gypsy children or gypsy children would pet stray dogs to lure them in and then slit their throats with a broken bottle and grill them over burning trash. Personally I cheer for the dogs, because dogs don't try to pick my pockets and smell much better than gypsies. |

Both are pains in the butt. Now gypsies will never shut the hell up, I met some before and they just talked and talked. Well let me re-phrase that. They are nice but they know how to yap. |

People just throw their dogs away and thus dogs don't trust people as much. And plus some little kids or drunk men kick them and beat the crap out of them. My father is a mechanic and he and his co-workers take stray dogs and bring them to their garage. They feed them and let them live there and I usually come and play with them during the weekends. |

| That is so sad, I'm glad your Dad helps them. How can someone abuse a dog like that? Don’t they feel remorse when they hear it crying when the hit them? Tisk, I don’t get some people these days. I hear Bucharest has the same problem, but there dogs usually contract rabies. I forget her name but an actress has rescued a lot of Romanian dogs, I will get back to you on who she is. |

| I despise people who abuse animals. We have some sicko around here who's been cutting off the ears of dogs then throwing them in a dumpster...I hope to God they catch him. |

I don't mind dogs though I'm more of a cat-person. But stray dogs, especially the big ones, can be dangerous to the health and safety of citizens. My husband was mauled by a dog nearly bigger than him when he was a kid, and is still afraid of dogs now.
that sicko must have something agaisnt dog ears and/or dog-eared books.
Anyway I don't think animals should be abused. I don't know if there are animal shelters in Moscow for the poor things. There's not even enough shelter for people.
On the other hand, I read somewhere that there are more animal shelters than women's shelters in a certain country (can't remember. Probably US). I think the subject of animal abuse is highly subjective. You won't cry if you see a roach being killed would you? But a cute, furry animal breaks your heart... |

Speaking of Dogs, my new neighbors have this huge *censored* dog that they leave on there deck. They live above my other neighbor and they just let this huge pit bull sit there. It barks at everything but when it sees someone it looks ready to jump off of the deck and chase them. Well this maybe a little hypocritical but if it comes near me I will have no qualms in defending my self! Because it looks dangerous. It will not take long before management does something after the tenants of my apartment complex start to complain, and believe me they will. Sorry about your husband Mediashark, and yes I do believe that is the US that has more dog shelters than women’s shelters. |

| I can't imagine not having a dog as a pet. But strays and dangerous threatening dogs are problems for everyone. Unfortunately where I live, there are groups of people, low lives really who train certain breeds especially pit bulls to fight. The dogs become very aggressive naturally. Then these low lives get tired of the dogs and they become strays. Many get euthanized because of there temperment. Some people are just idiots. |

Breeds like pit bulls are already aggressive, and then you train them to be even more aggressive and you have trouble. I completely feel the same way Cyndy, and the dog hasn’t shut up yet, all damn day it has been barking at passing tenants. I’m ready to go ballistic, but I don’t have to, my brother and sick father are napping. If it wakes them up I’m sure my father will voice his complaints. |

Zach,
You're wrong. Pit bulls are not an aggressive breed, though I know there is much controversy on this subject. All dogs by the way have tendencies to be aggressive because they are very loyal to their masters. It is both a good thing and a flaw I am afraid. I had 2 pitbulls and they were the sweetest most loveable pups you can imagine. But one night a few yrs. ago I took one for a walk unbleashed. I live in a fairly rural area. Toshie, my dog heard an ATV coming on the trail. He took off and I could hear him barking alot. Then I heard people's voicesion the ATV. They were clearly freightened and I can't be sure but I think Toshie nipped at them. That was enough for me. I made the decision to euthanize him and it broke my heart. I am not good about leashing my dogs and Toshie was too strong for me to handle on a leash. Before he was euthanized, I did try to find a nice home for him. It just didn't work out. |
