I'm glad you used to have nice pit bulls. And I'm sorry you had to put it to sleep. That must be one of the hardest things in the world. Sad I used to walk a beagle; he was hyper active but sweet. Every time he would see a little woodland creature he would go after it. Not being his owner I didn’t know how he would react around young children, I kept him away from them. Dog owners always tell you there dogs are friendly and our good around kids but you have to be cautious because they have minds of there own. They could smell something funny on you and go nuts. I was very cautious when I let the beagle around my baby brother, those 2 got along great! There is definitely fine line of trust between a dog and its master. And trust between you letting your dog roam freely and feeling comfortable that he will not harm any one. I think is great when dogs can roam with no leash, but in urban areas its not so great of an idea, and especially in Central Pennsylvania where they like to report you for stupid little things. Smile I miss Philadelphia and there laws and there nosy people!

Okay. There are two kids living in my apartment building in Russia. Their parents are alcoholics and don't work anywhere. Well, the kids used to take small cute pups to their apartment every month and then the pups would miraculously disappear... There was a rumor around the neighborhood that they would just get on the 5th floor of the house and throw the pups down Crying or Very sad We were shocked but believed it.

Well, about pit bulls. It probab;y depends on the owner, how he raises the dog. I personally have a very bad experience with pit bulls. One of them lives on the 1st floor in our house. So I have to pass their door every time I go for a walk with my dog. Those dogs are really strong and the one that's on the 1st floor is VERY aggressive too, so that pit bull and my cocker spaniel got into a lot of fights. I don't even know how my dog makes it through the fight with this huge monster. They never put a leash or a muzzle on him which makes it even more scary for me. Sorry Cindy, but from my experience pit bulls are monsters.

I am sorry but my opinion is that people who abuse others whether it be animals or other people are the real monsters. Animals are far more innocent than people but like anyone or anything mistreated, they will retaliate. Who could b5lame them?

They ARE the real monsters. Victims of child abuse usually either bully other children because that is there only way to process. And the dogs react the same way.

I saw a pack of wild dogs in my neighborhood today. Seven of them. They looked hungry. Confused About that guy cutting off the dogs' ears - that's just messed up. Not only is it disgusting in and of itself, but whenever you read about serial killers, you find out that they spent their childhoods torturing dogs and cats.

You're wrong. Pit bulls are not an aggressive breed, though I know there is much controversy on this subject. All dogs by the way have tendencies to be aggressive because they are very loyal to their masters.

No, Cyndy, you're the one who's wrong. The Pitbull is not even recognized by the American Kennel Club (nor the Canadian one). The Pitbull is an example of irresponsible dog owners as it's a result of mixed breeding. It came from dogs which were already agressive. I read an article way back describing the problems with them. That's why certain owners get them. I think they are sick. I feel sorry for the dogs, though. It is not their fault that there are too many idiots in the world who abuse their privilege of owning dogs.

Katyara, they're unpredictable. That's why you commonly read about incidences with them in which the dog was said to be the sweetest dog by the owner. The owner is shocked when their sweet, calm pitball turns on the owner's kid one day.

Dogs can be not only a mans best friend but also a womans. Why? This is what the idiot Wu wrote yesterday when explaining to everyone how he has a "victim" aura...

Winnie Wu on dogs when explaining his victim aura yesterday wrote:
Well I just remembered that several times in my life, dogs have often singled me out in a crowd of people, running up to me and barking angrily at me rather than at others. Obviously, if some strange dog I don't know comes and singles me out, then it can't be due to anything I did to it or any attitude on my part. It would have to do with something of an intangible nature. And that pretty much proves it, I would think.

Quite frankly its the best goddam Winston repellent out there. Russians should be embracing dogs, especially young Russian Women.

As for dogs in general it does not matter whether you have a pit bull or a chihuahua it all comes down to how you raise the dog. We had a pit bull 15 years ago. Gentlest thing you ever met. It would lick you to death. Our scrawny little tabby cat used to beat it up. Only time it ever got angry was when it saw a skateboarder. Hated them for some reason but hell, dont most of us LOL. One good thing now is if a dog attacks you the owner is held accountable now which promotes responsibility. If an owner gets a few offences he is not allowed to own a dog ever again under threat of jail time. Thats how things are in Aussie, dont know about the rest of the world.

animal abuse is highly subjective. You won't cry if you see a roach being killed would you? But a cute, furry animal breaks your heart...

unfortunately all animals must eat other animals, or plants to live. It's a closed system. Sad that death is the reality of life. What will you do, shake a fist at God? One option is to redesign DNA, although I suspect almost any variation will still require it to consume other living things. Then again, even if you did it, in order for the "new breed" to be plentiful, it would have to kill off the existing [Savage!] life forms.
Bucharest is a dump. The number of wild dogs there is amazing. Lived there, done that. I wonder if things have gotten better in Romania given its connecting with EU.

It is absolutely right that dogs are a product of their environment.
However, certain dogs are bred for certain traits therefore will have certain dispositions, but no pedigree dog is bred to be an unpredictable animal.

Provided parents are of sound temperament, you should have no problem with any breed, but still some countries are littered with such 'problem' dogs.
I think it goes back to the mentality of the nation. If dogs are highlighted to be respected like they are in many parts of the world, then stray dogs more often than not get rescued, and dog incidents will not be such a problem.

The native 'stray' dog(well, the descended form) of England is the fox. And it is a harmless but very cunning creature which preys at night and makes the strangest of noises.

Funny, just this second looked out of the window and saw one sneakily prowling in the street..

Anyway, they are also extremely intelligent and expert in avoiding human contact, so you can't really mind them being there.
Although if you choose to live off the land, they can be your livestock's worst nightmare.
