| I was fortunate to travel to Kazan last year and I truly enjoyed it. They will have their 1000th celebration this year and my wife (Russian) and I will probably make it back there for the big celebration. I'm just curious if anyone will be doing the same, or if they have been to Kazan in the last year or so? |

In my opinion, the best route is to fly to Moscow, spend a couple of nights in hotel Leningradskaya near Kazanskoy station and then take the night train from Kazanskoy station to Kazan. It leaves around 11 pm at night and gets to Kazan early the next afternoon. In my opinion, this is just about the right length for a train ride. You get the whole Russian train experience but you are not on the train long enough to get tired of it. The scenery as the train travels along the Volga river valley is lovely. Buy the train tickets when you get to Moscow, i.e. one or two days in advance. There are 3 choices. SV (SpalVagon) is a small compartment with two berths. Kupe is the same small compartment with 4 berths because they also have upper berths on each side. I think that a couple should ask for the two upper berths because it is a bit more private than two lower berths. Then there is Platzkart which has no compartment doors and also has extra berths in the corridors. The Platzkart cars will have a lot of families with children in them.
The reason that I suggest hotel Leningradskaya is that it is one of the buildings that were built in Moscow just after the Empire State building went up in New York. It is an elegant 1930's building. Even though the rooms are a bit small by western standards, they are well fitted and the breakfast room is absolutely gorgeous. I think it is actually a ballroom because of the ornate fixtures. And the breakfast smorgasbord there is top notch, far better than the hotel Rossiya.
I would also suggest that you offer to meet your girlfriend in Moscow if she has never been there before. A couple of days of sightseeing is a lovely gift for her. |

| Hi, everybody. Can anybody tell me if Zainsk has an airport? If not, how should I travel from Moscow to Zainsk? By train, or? I have done a long search about it, yet I can't find any flight. |

We have never heard of Zainsk.
Of course, we could go search in Google and find out where it us, but, you could do the same thing so why should we do your work for you.
Anyway, I can tell you where the nearest airport is even though I have never heard of Zainsk and don't know where it is in Russia.
It's quite simple. The nearest airport is in the nearest major city.
If Zainsk has a train station, then you can check schedules in the train tickets menu on the left of this page. And if it doesn't have a train station, then there will be daily bus services from the nearest major town. Just buy your train tickets to that town and ask about buses when you arrive at the station. |

| Well, first I have done "all researches." I couldn't find any. That's why I came here to find some help. Since you don't know where it is at, then don't worry about it. Thanks anyways. |

Zainsk is located east of Kazan and south of Naberezhnyye Chelny in Tatarstan Republic. The map shows an airport at Naberezhnyye Chelny, however I would expect that you would have to Kazan then go by bus.
I have been to Kazan a couple of times. Some pictures at:

Sure ksasha,
Is the Vampire Theme Bar located whose entrance is a down on the side of the main Kazan street near the Mac Donalds actually a bar or a strip club? I went there at 3 am for a last beer and they asked me for an entry fee...after I entered and ordered the beers. |
